“Mr. Warren, Nalani is here,” Chris, the assistant, announced while standing at the door without entering.
Alex slowly straightened up, forcing down the anger bubbling inside him. Gritting his teeth, he snapped, “Let her in!”
Nalani entered the room, and Barry along with Chris stepped out.
Alex turned and pulled a document from the drawer of his desk, then strolled over to the lounge area.
Nalani walked in with her heels clicking on the floor, and she couldn’t help but notice the furious expression on Alex’s face, which looked like he was ready to kill. She pouted, “Isn’t this what you’ve always wanted but were too afraid to do? Why the hesitation?”
With a loud slap, Alex tossed the document onto the coffee table. “Cut the small talk! Why are you here?”
Nalani pulled a paper from her bag and placed it on the table. “Remember our agreement about getting married for two years? The contract is signed, and you broke it by getting caught in bed with someone else. According to the agreement, you owe me compensation, and the engagement is null and void!”
Alex glanced down at the document on the table. “If you want compensation, bring Layton to me!”
“You’re good friends; if you can’t find him, how can I?” Nalani shot back, her anger rising at the mention of that dog of a man named Layton. “Don’t pin this on me–I’m a victim too!”
“The marriage agreement process hasn’t even begun, so how can you call yourself a victim?” Alex quickly grabbed the document and marched to the shredder.
He looked back at Nalani and said, “Get in touch with him now and tell him to come back and explain. Otherwise, the contract is off!”
“That man isn’t worth a dime,” Nalani cursed as she pulled out her phone and, right in front of Alex, dialed Layton’s number.
She slammed her phone down when she heard the voicemail: Layton’s phone was off. She was on the verge of throwing her phone against the wall!
“Mr. Warren, this is between you two, so don’t drag me into this,” Nalani said while sending a message to Layton.
“His issues are your issues, and your issues are his. To me, it’s all the same,” Alex shot back. “The marriage was his idea, so if you want compensation, you need to talk to him. I can’t lose my wife and keep my peace,” he finished, tossing both documents directly into the shredder. At that moment, Alex embodied the true essence of a ruthless businessman.

As evening set in, Alex returned to the Warren Manor. He found his parents sitting in the living room with dark expressions. Keeping his cool, he approached them.
Nancy stood up, tugging at her son’s expensive suit. “Son, I need to ask you, how did you get yourself into this mess?” Alex’s face darkened. “Mom, can you please speak more respectfully? You’re not a kid anymore!”
Nancy opened her mouth, glancing at her husband, then at her rebellious son. For a moment, her mind went blank. She suddenly grabbed Alex’s ear. “How could you do something so shameless? How can you still show your face at work?!”
“What shameless thing did I do?” Alex stood up and ducked behind the sofa. “I’m telling you, I was set up!”

Todd sat on the sofa, his face livid. “You went out wearing that ridiculous outfit and misbehaving. What are you going to do
about it?!”
Alex looked down at his clothes, fuming. He ripped off his suit jacket and tossed it onto the sofa. Cautiously glancing at his parents, he lowered his voice, “I, want, to marry her.”
“You wish!” Before Alex could finish, Nancy shot back.
