By the evening, Alex’s parents rushed back to Ellie’s hospital room after taking care of Carlos’s discharge.
In the hospital’s visiting area, the elders from the Warren and Thompson families sat face–to–face once again. Alex and Aaron stood at the end of Ellie’s hospital bed.
Seeing that neither set of parents were speaking, Alex was the first to express his thoughts, “Ellie has amnesia now. I’ll find the best doctors to help her, and I want to bring her back to the Warren family.”
As soon as Alex spoke, Nancy nervously clutched her rapidly beating heart. Todd kept his head down, feeling extremely embarrassed.
“Mr. Warren, I advise you to be kind!” Aaron couldn’t hold back any longer. Nancy lowered her head even more, thinking about how Alex had everything except a good conscience.
Alex met Aaron’s gaze, opened his mouth a little, and then looked towards his parents. Seeing his parents avoiding eye contact, he glanced back at the Thompson family.
Noticing the increasingly grim looks on the Thompson family’s faces, Alex cleared his throat. He paused and said softly, “I admit I was a jerk before, and I’ll never be able to repay Ellie and the Thompson family for what I owe you”
Alex said, “Ellie has amnesia and forgotten all those bad things. We’ve been together for over ten years, and she still feels for me like before. If she stays like this for years or even her whole life, will you stop me from getting close to her?”
Aaron said seriously, “Mr. Warren, Ellie only has traumatic amnesia. She’ll get better soon. Your thinking right now is not only deceiving her but also yourself.”
“Even if that’s true, you can’t stop me!” Alex said, a mischievous look in his eyes. “Even if Ellie has amnesia now, she’s still an independent person. Like you said, none of you have the right to make decisions for her!”
Alex urged, “Let her decide for herself this time. If she wants to be with me, I promise to treat her right. I’m pleading with you. Don’t stop me anymore. Even if she later regains her memory, I’ll accept all the consequences.”
The room went silent. Nancy sneaked a look at the Thompson family and then lowered her head again. There were indeed some things that elders found hard to say.
However, Aaron was too proper in his way of dealing with things, and yet Alex was ridiculously shameless. If Aaron wasn’t so proper, Alex would truly be taught a lesson.
“What are you all talking about?” Ellie woke up again, trying to sit up despite the intense headache.
In the next moment, Alex dashed to Ellie’s bedside like a sprinter. He carefully helped Ellie sit up and then naturally took a seat next to her.
Joanna approached to help Ellie, but Alex protectively held Ellie in front of him and said, “Mrs. Thompson, I’ve got her.” Joanna just stood there speechless.
Ellie was sweating a bit from her severe headache. She forced herself to push Alex away and held Joanna’s hand. Alex hesitated for a moment but then stepped aside.
Ellie said, “Mom, you’re here! Where’s Dad?” As soon as Ellie spoke, everyone froze. Joanna’s lips trembled as tears welled up
in her eyes.
