Chapter 400
The next morning. Ellic noticed the house was unusually quiet. She didn’t even see the housekeeper.
“Amelia, where is everyone?” Ellie asked, coming out to the living room, noticing Carlos was still asleep.
“Ms. Thompson, Mr. Alex Warren fell from the second floor last night. Mr. and Mrs. Warren, along with Evan, rushed him to the hospital and they haven’t returned yet,” replied Amelia.
Ellie glanced up at the second floor. She took out her phone to call and was about to ask about the situation, but the thought of the doll in Alex’s room made her think Alex should be fine.
After breakfast, Ellie wheeled Carlos, out to the garden to tend to his orchids. Feeling her phone vibrate in her pocket, she stepped aside to answer it.
“I almost died. Nobody told you?” Alex’s voice came through the phone, laced with annoyance.
“Alex, are you alright?” Ellie asked softly.
“I won’t die,” Alex said.
“That’s good,” Ellic sighed in relief.
Alex was silent for a moment and then he spoke again, clearly without the same momentum as before. “My leg is injured. Do you want to come to the hospital to take care of me?”
Ellie glanced at Carlos not far away and softly refused. “No, I have to take care of Grandpa. If there are not enough people, I can ask Amelia to come over.”
Before Ellie could finish speaking, the call was hung up.
At noon, Ellie was gnawing on a peach and was about to go upstairs when Alex entered the living room, flanked by Evan on the left and Barry on the right.
Alex pushed Evan and Barry away. He hopped on one leg to Ellie. He glared at the half–eaten peach in Ellie’s hand, his temples throbbing with anger. “I almost fell to my death and you’re still in the mood to eat?”
Ellie nodded and hid the peach behind her back, not daring to chew on the piece that was still in her mouth. She just held it there.
Alex, who was originally furious, unconsciously calmed down when he met Ellie’s innocent eyes. When he spoke again, his voice was incredibly gentle. “Come upstairs with me.”
After saying that, Alex was helped up by Evan and Barry and hopped towards the stairs. Halfway up, he looked back and saw that Ellie hadn’t followed him at all. He was so angry that his sides ached.
In the afternoon, Ellie was organizing Carlos‘ study when Amelia knocked on the door. “Ms. Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Warren have gone out. Please go upstairs and check on Mr. Alex Warren.”
Ellie was dragged by Amelia into Alex’s bedroom.
Inside the bedroom, Evan, Barry, and the family doctor were present. Alex was lying in his large bed, his face dark as he‘ stared at Ellie. The white bandage on his leg was stained crimson with blood, likely because the wound had been bumped.

Chapter 400
Ellie stood at the foot of the bed, meeting Alex’s cold gaze. Without a word, she looked away.
Evan said, “Doctor, please take a look. We don’t want his leg getting infected.”
The doctor awkwardly bent over. As soon as his fingers touched the bandage on Alex’s calf, Alex kicked him away.
The doctor looked at Evan and Evan remained silent.
Evan looked at Ellie.
Ellie shook her head and waved her hands. “Don’t look at me. My brain is injured and doesn’t work well. I can’t treat people.”
Alex lay motionless on the bed, staring at Ellie for a long time, then pointed at her and said, “Come here.”
Ellie shook her head.
Gritting his teeth and enduring the pain in his body, Alex sat up and pointed at Ellie. “Get over here now.”
Ellie shook her head again.
