Alex didn’t speak and Ellie was happy to keep quiet. She sat on the edge of the bed and began to remove the bandage from
Alex’s calf.
The room fell into a long silence.
Alex watched as Ellie skillfully re–bandaged his leg. As Ellie was about to leave, his gaze sharpened. He suddenly grabbed Ellie’s wrist and pulled her into his arms. Before Ellie could struggle, he flipped her over and pressed her beneath him.
As soon as he touched her, he couldn’t help but want to get closer. In this ambiguous position, he whispered in her ear. “Don’t go. Talk to me.”
“Let go of me. Grandpa’s still waiting for me downstairs.” Ellie turned her head, dodging Alex’s scorching breath.
“I just asked. Grandpa’s not awake yet. Stay and talk with me for a while.” Alex’s lips grazed Ellie’s neck. His low voice held a hint of gentleness and a trace of seduction. “Stay the night. I…”
Before Alex could finish his sentence, a loud “thud” came from the door. Ellie seized the opportunity to roll out of bed.
Barry stood frozen in the hallway, clutching his bruised head against the wall, not daring to breathe.
Seeing Ellie leave, Barry steeled himself and entered the room.
Looking at Alex’s murderous gaze, Barry quickly lowered his head.
Alex gritted his teeth and said, “Go ahead.”
“You were right, Mr. Warren. The guy you punched in the bar was Mr. Griffith’s son,” said Barry.
Alex stared at Barry and kept silent.
“We received confirmation from Yorksure that Haley is indeed deceased. And the third paternity test we ran on Quinlee came back. Quinlee’s the Janssen family’s second daughter and a former classmate of Mr. Griffith’s daughter. She didn’t lie,” said Barry.
Alex waved his hand impatiently and Barry quickly left the room.
Early the next morning, Alex hopped around for a long time but didn’t see Ellie.
Seeing Alex standing on the stairs, Evan hurried over to help him. “Mr. Warren, please stop looking. Ms. Thompson went to learn medicine.”
Alex stood on one leg at the top of the stairs, his hands resting on the railing. He frowned and thought for a long time. “Why on earth would she learn that?” he murmured.
Alex went back to his room and sent a message to Ellie but Ellie didn’t reply. Then he hopped downstairs again.
“Aren’t you tired?” Nancy frowned, annoyed at seeing Alex hopping around the living room. “Ellie is back. Go wash your hands and get ready to eat.”
Hearing Nancy say that Ellie was back, Alex hopped to the door.

Chapter 405
As soon as Ellie entered the door, she saw Alex standing by the shoe cabinet.
The two looked at each other.
Alex said with an unhappy face, “Why didn’t you reply to my message?”
Ellie bent down to change her slippers and answered, “I didn’t see it.”
“Cut the crap.” Alex retorted, “You can see my mom’s messages, but not mine? Your eyes have an automatic filter?”
Ellie broke free from Alex and headed for the bathroom.
Alex bounced after Ellie and kept asking, “Seriously, why are you learning medicine?”
Ellie pursed her lips, not daring to make a sound.
Ellie washed her hands as Alex leaned against the bathroom door and asked, “I’m talking to you. Cat got your tongue?”
Ellie walked out of the bathroom in silence and headed for the dining room.
Alex bounced after Ellie and said, “Ellie, if you dare not reply to my messages again, I…”
Ellie stopped and turned around.
“Let’s go for dinner.” Alex rubbed his nose and hopped towards the dining room.
