Chapter 406
During lunch, Alex kept fussing over Ellie. He sometimes handed her tissues, sometimes peeled shrimp for her, and kept asking if her food was too hot or cold, which made Ellie feel super awkward–she didn’t know whether to eat.
Alex’s parents were even more uncomfortable. They couldn’t stand watching their son act like this, but they had no choice.
After lunch, Alex always followed Ellie around, hopping everywhere. Eventually, he got tired and went back to his room to
rest.
After a nap, he was as energetic as ever. “Where is she?” Alex asked as soon as he woke up.
“Ms. Thompson is in the garden with Mr. Carlos Warren tending to the orchids,” Evan replied.
Seeing Alex about to hop down the stairs again, Evan quickly stepped forward to support him. “Mr. Warren, please be careful. Don’t hurt yourself.”
Alex’s leg might not be in the best shape, but he was still as lively as a zombie king, always bouncing around.
The night before, a servant had walked past the garden and glanced up at Alex’s window, only to be scared to faint.
In the garden, Alex saw Ellie and Carlos near the greenhouse entrance. Alex felt he moved so slowly with the support of Evan and decided to hop forward by himself.
“Mr. Warren, be careful,” Evan warned, but it was too late. Alex hopped onto a stone next to the artificial pond and lost his balance.
With a splash, Alex fell into the pond, landing in a rather undignified position.
“Good–for–nothing.” Carlos weakly glanced over.
Half an hour later, Barry helped Alex out of the bathroom after he had taken a shower.
Then, Ellie rebandaged Alex’s wound.
“Don’t just focus on my leg. Feel my forehead and see if I have a fever,” Alex said, grabbing Ellie’s hand and pressing it to his forehead.
This made Barry so uncomfortable that he quickly left the room.
At that moment, Ellie’s phone rang.
After hanging up with Quinlee, Ellie left Alex’s room.
In the hallway, Ellie ran into Layton and greeted him.
Layton walked into the room and saw Alex’s leg half–bandaged. Layton laughed without holding back. “That’s too much. She left it halfway done.”
“She had something important to do,” Alex said gloomily, sitting up to bandage his leg.
Layton offered him a cigarette, but Alex frowned and warned, “I don’t smoke. If you want to smoke, do it outside.”

Layton put the cigarette away. “Even if you disinfect your room three times a day, Ellie won’t sleep in here with you,” he said.
An hour later, Ellie and Quinlee came out of a chess club in the city center.
Noticing Ellie’s furrowed brows, Quinlee naturally tried to comfort her. “Mr. Griffith’s temper is just so odd. I’ll call you again when I get the chance.”
“Thanks,” Ellie replied.
Although she didn’t particularly like Quinlee, she had to be polite since Quinlee had kindly helped her get in touch with an expert on pancreatopathy.
This time, it was Ellie’s poor chess skills that didn’t earn her more time. She thought, ‘I must study that game with Mr. Griffith. I can’t give up.’
When Ellie got back to the Warren Manor, Alex was in the study having a cross–border video conference.
“Ms. Thompson, could you go see Mr. Warren? He has been complaining about his leg,” Evan said, leading Ellie to the study door and handing her the medical kit.
Ellie went into the study, which was quiet except for Alex speaking foreign languages fluently.
