With Alex guarding the other side of the car, Ellie was temporarily safe inside.
Through the car window, Ellie watched as Alex was surrounded by a group of men in a fierce fight. The attackers clearly noticed Alex’s injured left leg and deliberately targeted it.
But Alex didn’t care, fiercely guarding the car door behind him to prevent anyone from getting close.
Ellie quickly searched through Alex’s car.

After searching for a while without finding any weapon, Ellie lay down on the car door to keep an eye on Alex outside.

The car window shattered, and Alex opened the door, turning his back to the attackers and shielding Ellie with his body as he said, “Get out of the car.”
Seeing the alarming blood on Alex’s face and the way he was gritting his teeth to hold on, Ellie knew he was about to collapse. She got out of the car without hesitation.
Her gaze fell on Alex’s hand, which was dripping blood, and she noticed his arm trembling slightly.

Before she could respond, Alex pulled her tightly into his arms and rolled down the slope with her.
Alex held Ellie tightly the entire time. When they finally came to a stop, Alex looked around and realized they had landed in a reed marsh.
The water wasn’t deep, but it was enough to soak them both.
“Don’t move,” Alex instructed, feeling around with one hand until he found a broken tree stump sticking out of the water.
Ignoring his own pain, Alex shifted, holding Ellie on his back as he maneuvered them closer to the stump.
He positioned himself so that his back was supported by the stump and his legs were braced against the broken tree trunk in
the water.
He suspended his waist in the air, using his shoulders and legs to keep Ellie’s body out of the water.
Hearing movement nearby, Alex threw his phone as hard as he could.
Soon, the footsteps faded away. After a while, the sound of an engine started up on the dam.
“Don’t be afraid. We’re safe for now,” Alex said, pulling Ellie closer and gently patting her back to comfort her.

“I wish time could just stop at this moment,” Alex murmured.
“Why?” Ellie asked cautiously.
“Because at this moment, you won’t push me away,” Alex replied.
“I don’t want time to stop,” Ellie closed her eyes and said, tears rolling down her cheeks.
“Why not?” Alex asked.
“Because you’re hurt, and it must hurt a lot,” Ellie whispered.

“No pain is worse than when you ignore me,” Alex said, his voice thick with emotion. “Ellie, when I hold you again, can you promise not to push me away?”
Ellie didn’t speak, but her tears flowed uncontrollably.
Hearing her quiet sobs, Alex’s voice broke as he continued, “Ellie, you have no idea how much I want to go back to the way things were, how much I want to be with you again.”
