Chapter 424
Hearing Alex’s sudden suggestion to go abroad, Ellie pulled away from his embrace. “Why do you want to go abroad all of a sudden?” she asked.
Alex tried to pull Ellie onto his lap, but she was hesitant, considering his injured leg.
“Sit here, he insisted somewhat domineeringly, pulling her into his arms and settling her on his uninjured leg.
Leaning in slightly, he held her close and looked into her eyes. “I’ve contacted a very renowned expert overseas to see if they can help you regain your memory,” he explained.
Hearing that Alex was actively seeking a foreign expert to restore her memory, Ellie’s last bit of worry dissipated. “I’ll follow your lead, Alex,” she said.
As their eyes met, Ellie felt her face grow warm from the intensity in Alex’s gaze. She lowered her head to avoid his eyes and tried to get up, but Alex held her even tighter.
With one arm wrapped around Ellie’s body and the other lifting her chin, Alex finally gave in and kissed the person he had longed for day and night.
Ellie’s hands pressed against Alex’s chest as she tilted her head back, accepting the uniquely Alex–scented kiss. The kiss deepened, leaving Ellie breathless. In the quiet pavilion, hormones spread unrestrainedly.
“Come to my room tonight,” Alex whispered, barely containing himself as his hands roamed over Ellie’s body. He couldn’t help but lower his head again and capture her lips in a passionate kiss.
At some point, Ellie had wrapped her arms around Alex’s neck and straddled him, her legs parted.
Overwhelmed by the kiss, Ellie couldn’t help but make soft noises, causing Alex to lose control instantly.
“Back to the room,” Alex said, picking her up and striding out of the pavilion, disregarding the pain in his leg.
Just then, a teasing whistle sounded, and Alex stopped in his tracks. Seeing Layton’s smirking expression from a distance, Alex’s face darkened immediately. “Go back where you came from,” he snapped.
Layton was left speechless.
“Alex, put me down!” Ellie, regaining her senses, hastily struggled to slide off Alex and ran away, pushing him aside. “You’re really despicable,” Layton said, rolling his eyes at Alex, who couldn’t seem to tear his gaze away from Ellie.
In the pavilion, Alex sat on the wheelchair, dark–faced, pulling his shirttail out from his waist. “There are plenty who curse me; I don’t mind if you are added to the list,” he muttered.
Layton sat at the stone table and offered Alex a cigarette. “What are you planning to do if she suddenly regains her memory after you deceive her like this?” he asked.
Alex took the cigarette but didn’t light it.
He lowered his head, hiding the emotions in his eyes, and after a long while, he spoke. “There will be a way,” he said,
determined.
He had finally gotten this chance, and no matter what, he wouldt let things go wrong between him and Ellie again.
After Layton left, Alex went upstairs. He asked a servant and learned that Ellie was resting in her room. He decided not to disturb her.

At three in the afternoon, in Alex’s independent study on the second floor, Barry reported. “Mr. Warren, everything is set up in Yorksure. You can take Ms. Thompson there anytime.”
Standing in front of the floor–to–ceiling windows in the study, Alex, seated in his wheelchair, asked, “Has Stephen been contacted?”
Barry replied, “Mr. Warren, Stephen is an internationally renowned jewelry designer. His assistant said his appointments are booked three years in advance, and he’s not taking any new orders at the moment.”
