Early one morning. Ellie wheeled Alex to get a CT scan. One moment he was strolling around in the room, and the next, he was back on the bed saying he felt dizzy and couldn’t get up. Ellie had no choice but to fetch a wheelchair. “Get in the wheelchair,” she said.

Frustrated, Ellie had to bed. As they wheeled him towards the imaging room, Alex kicked at her arm. “Push my pillow up higher
Ellie stepped forward and adjusted the pillow for him.
“I want water,” he demanded before she could even take two steps away.
Ellie frowned. “You can have some after the scan.
Before she could finish, he yanked the IV line out of his arm. The nurse exchanged awkward glances with Ellie, who stopped. dead in her tracks, seething with anger.
In the corridor, Alex sat in a patient gown, sulking on the gurney, glaring at Ellie, who was wearing a white lab coat and trying to keep her composure as their gazes locked.
Every now and then, patients and nurses strolled by, unable to resist stealing glances at them. Clearly, their silent communication had transcended that of a typical doctor and patient, and whispers began to circulate.
“What’s up with those two? Are the doctor and the patient a couple?”
“I heard they’re dating. The girl’s a doctor in our department, and her boyfriend is some rich guy”
“That makes sense. He looks handsome but
like trouble.”
“For sure. There’s probably some domestic violence lurking beneath the surface.”
Alex was left on the gurney, and after waiting for what felt like an eternity without Ellie making a move, he finally snapped. “Are you gonna come over here or what?”
The onlookers couldn’t take it anymore.
“Dude, treat your girlfriend better!”
“Seriously, can’t you see she’s almost in tears?”
Fuming, Alex gritted his teeth. “She’s not my girlfriend!”
Suddenly, a guy in a patient gown pushed through the crowd. “You two will get along. Catch her!
Before the words could even settle, the guy shoved Ellie forward. With a yelp, she lost her balance and fell straight into
Alex’s arms.
Another round of gasps erupted as Ellie crashed into Alex, taking him down onto the gurney. In that split second, their lips collided, and they both let out muffled noises of surprise,

The corridor quickly filled with onlookers, many pulling out their phones to capture the moment. Some snapped photos while others recorded videos.
Finally, the gurney collided with a cart beside the nurse’s station, bringing them to a halt.
Ellie scrambled off the gurney, abandoning Alex and darting into the elevator. Alex slowly sat up, instinctively touching his lips, where Ellie had just kissed him
All day, Ellie hid out in the plastic surgery department, too embarrassed to show her face again. As closing time approached, she overheard a colleague mention that Alex had been discharged, and she felt an overwhelming sense of relief.
Later that evening, around ten, Nancy returned home with her husband after a night out. She spotted Alex staring at a painting of a woman on the wall, licking his lips in a daze. “You got out of the hospital pretty quick, huh?” she asked.
Alex snapped back to reality and hurried upstairs, muttering to himself, “Damn it!”
After Nancy finished her shower, she stepped out of the bathroom, multitasking with her skincare routine while chatting with her husband. “Honey, it seems like Alex and Haley are really into each other. If he’s thinking about settling down, we should help him out.”
Alex’s father, Todd, put down his magazine. “With his attitude, if he doesn’t find someone who can handle him. I truly worry he’s gonna blow through all his money. Honestly, if Ellie hadn’t gone into medicine, she would’ve been perfect for him.”
Nancy smiled at the thought of Ellie. That girl’s too soft. There’s no way she could tame your stubborn son. She’d be mare suited to be a beloved daughter than a daughter–in–law.”
“As the saying goes, establish a family before building a career. We need to talk to him and ensure he’s ready to take over the company.
He can’t keep being so irresponsible,” Nancy declared, pulling Todd upstairs to find Alex
As they approached Alex’s room, they noticed the door was slightly ajar. Nancy pushed it open and stepped into the room.
Inside the bedroom, Alex was rolling around on the bed, hugging a pillow and mushing his face into it, breathlessly making sounds of delight. His parents glanced at each other, their expressions a mix of shock and amusement.
