Alex sais, “Grandpa hasn’t woken up yet. My parents are taking care of him. I didn’t tell you because I wanted you to stay at home and take care of Mrs. Thompson”
Alex held Ellie’s hand and took deep breaths continuously to relieve the pain coming from his knees. He lowered his eyes to hide his emotions and prevent Ellie from seeing his true thoughts.
Barry watched behind as Alex led Ellie into Carlos’s hospital room. He was so worried that his hands were raised in the air. He was afraid that Alex would collapse out of sudden.
Alex went into the ward with Elle and chatted with his parents for a while. Then he took Ellie out of the ward. After several days of separation, at the end of the empty corridor, Alex couldn’t wait to hold Ellie tightly.
“Grandpa got caught in the rain and now his fever won’t go down. The doctor said we should make preparations in advance.” Alex buried his head in the crook of Ellie’s neck, and his voice was muilled.
Joanna quietly forced Alex to agree not to marry Ellie for three years. She just wanted to give Ellie some time to regain her
memory.
Alex had to keep the three–year agreement. Now Carlos suddenly fell critically ill. If Carlos passed away, Alex wouldn’t have any reason to keep Ellie at the Warren Manor anymore.
Every time Alex thought about these things in the past few days, his heart felt as if it was being tightly squeezed by something, making it difficult for him to breathe.
Alex said, “Ellie, you promised to stay with Grandpa until the end. Come home with me! Grandpa’s condition is too serious to leave the hospital now. I will be very busy next. You can’t stay too far away from me. I’m afraid I won’t be able to find you!”
Ellie broke free from Alex’s embrace and put her hands on Alex’s chest to create some distance between them.
She said. “My mother’s health has improved a lot and she can get out of bed. I’ll go back and talk to my mother and Aaron. I’ll come back to stay with you and keep Grandpa company during his last days.”
Facing Ellie’s firm eyes, Alex shook his head. He greedily held Ellie tightly in his arms again and closed his eyes to feel the warmth of Ellie’s body. He said, ‘T’ll pick you up at the Thompson residence tomorrow morning and talk to Mrs. Thompson and Aaron myself.
When Barry drove Ellie back to the Thompson residence, it was almost eight o’clock in the evening. In the middle of July, at eight o’clock in the evening, the sky hadn’t completely darkened.
Ellie entered the gate of the Thompson residence and vaguely heard a woman’s crying. Following the sound, Ellie saw Aaron and Yvette talking on the garden path.
Yvette said, “Aaron, did I do something wrong?”
Aaron said, “Ms. Griffith, you didn’t do anything wrong. It’s my problem.”
“Aaron, are you suddenly breaking up with me because of Ms. Grant?!”
“I told yo
you, Ms. Griffith. It’s a personal matter and has nothing to do with anyone else!”
“Aaron, we agreed to get to know each other first and not force each other. But we were getting along well before. Why do you suddenly say you can’t continue? Even if you don’t want to date me anymore, at least give me a reason!”
Ellie quietly backed away a few steps as she listened to Yvette tearfully grill Aaron.
Although that day Aaron kind of implied that Yvette was being a bit out of line, he also said he just wanted to lead an ordinary life with an ordinary person.
