In mid–July, on a rainy evening, Ellie returned to the Thompson residence. When she saw Joanna waiting expectantly at the door of the living room, the emotions she had just barely managed to control broke down again. She cried, “Mom.”
Joanna held Ellie’s hand and led her inside. Her eyes were red, but she didn’t cry. All she could say was, “It’s good to be back.”

Whitney saw Ellie, who was soaked through and looked awful, and she wiped her own tears in sympathy. “We’re family. Don’t say such harsh words. Blame that bastard for being such a jerk and taking advantage!”
“Go take a bath and get some sleep. No matter how big the problem is, it will pass,” Jason said casually, with no obvious emotions on his face.
Joanna gently pushed Ellie upstairs. “Listen to your uncle. If there’s anything, we can talk about it when you wake up.”
“Go upstairs, take a shower and get some sleep to calm down,” Aaron said as he led Ellie upstairs.
All Ellie’s negative emotions had to be digested slowly by herself and then gradually healed. Even her closest relatives couldn’t help her.
Late at night, in the dark room, Ellie curled up under the covers and hugged herself tightly. When she closed her eyes, all she could see was Alex’s extremely deceitful face.
He kept saying that he wanted to make it up, but he took advantage of her amnesia and used despicable and deceptive means to make her return to his side willingly. Not only that, but he also proposed to her and had a physical relationship with her.
And she believed every word he said unconditionally and was deceived by him like a fool. She forgot all the harm Alex had done to her and her father’s death and fell in love with him again.
In order to be with him, she broke her promise to Aaron and made her entire family worry about her. She thought she was a complete joke and this was the price she paid for not listening to her family. She deserved it.
Ellie curled up into a ball, closed her eyes and dug her fingers into her hair. She pulled her long hair and the tears burst out, but she desperately suppressed herself and didn’t let herself cry out.
Aaron said that hating someone was like wearing yourself out. Even so, she hated Alex very much. As long as the pain and torture Alex caused her remained, her hatred for him would never go away.
At the same time, in the study on the second floor of the Warren Manor, Alex sat with his back against the corner of the wall and his legs curled up with his elbows resting on his knees. He sat on the floor in a decadent posture.
The light silver Maine Coon kitten meowed at him a few times and hid behind the curtains in the distance.
He was still wearing the same clothes as during the day. His half–dry clothes were covered with mud, and his bangs fell casually and covered part of his eyes.

His mind was full of the sarcastic look Ellie gave him before she left during the day.
She said that she never wanted to see him again. She said that a promise made with a lie was more false and unreliable than
the lie itself.
