With the bag in hand, Diana turned to leave, but Aaron called after her, extending a platinum bracelet towards her. Diana eyed the bracelet in Aaron’s hand, a frown forming on her brow
She had searched for it for a long time and had almost given up hope of ever finding it, only to discover it was in his possession.
“Why didn’t you have Ellie return it to me?” she asked, rolling her eyes at Aaron as she accepted the bracelet.
After five years, he was finally giving it back, and the style was already outdated. The entrance of the Grant Manor was beautifully landscaped, and despite the efforts to treat for mosquitoes, the summer evening was still filled with some.
Diana, dressed in a short top and skirt, found it hard to stand still as the mosquitoes buzzed around her, and she turned to leave with the bag in hand.
“Diana,” Aaron called as she attempted to walk away, unable to suppress his urge to speak. “I appreciate your support for Ellie and her kids during these years abroad.”
Turning back to glare at Aaron, Diana shot back, “That was a bond between Ellie and me; it has nothing to do with you.”
Aaron fell silent. After a brief pause, he couldn’t help but ask, “Now that you’re back, are you planning to leave again?”
Diana asked, “Have you gotten married?” Aaron shook his head.
“Do you have a fiancée?” she pressed, and again he shook his head.
“Then I suppose I shall leave as soon as possible, ensuring I do not interfere with your aspirations to settle down, Mr. Thompson.” With that, Diana pushed open the door, ready to step inside.
Aaron grasped the doorknob, blocking her entry. “It’s been five years; surely you can stop being so stubborn.”
Diana glared at him. “My stubbornness is none of your concern.”
The two exchanged heated stares in the twilight at the entrance. Aaron sighed, taking a deep breath as if gathering great resolve, and said to Diana, “When do you have time to talk with me?”
Diana replied, “Never. If Yvette sees us, there will surely be misunderstandings.”
Aaron countered, “Don’t bring anyone else into this. I’m talking about us.”
Diana retorted, “We haven’t seen each other in five years. What can we possibly talk about? Don’t expect an apology from me.”
Aaron pleaded, “Can we at least talk civilly?”
“Absolutely not.” Diana walked away and couldn’t help but glance back, only to find Aaron already in his car.
“If I keep talking to you, I must be a fool,” Diana exclaimed in indignation, forcefully pushing the door. Upon entering, her steps halted abruptly as she noticed several heads peering at her from inside.
A boy asked, “Diana, is that person going to be your husband?”
“No way,” Diana snapped, unable to resist stealing another glance back.
