On a warm July evening, the city square buzzed with people trying to escape the heat. Ellie sat on the steps beside the fountain with her close friends, Diana and Lacey, while her two children played nearby.
“I envy you so much, Ellie, Lacey said, her eyes filled with jealousy as she looked at Ellie’s kids. “You have such a wonderful family, a great job, and now two adorable little ones. You’re basically the picture of success in life.”

Lacey leaned over to Diana and asked, “Diana, are you going to leave again after this visit?”

As Diana clenched her fists to keep calm, Yvette continued provocatively, “Livia, do you remember the nasty woman who came between Aaron and me years ago? He’d rather stay single than be with her. Isn’t that sad?”
Diana snapped, unable to hold back her anger. “Who are you referring to, Yvette?”
Yvette retorted with a challenging look, “Ms. Grant, don’t take it personally.”
In a flash, Diana slapped Yvette before anyone could react. Yvette held her stinging cheek, looking around in shock. “How dare you hit me?”
Diana shot back, “Do you think you can annoy me and still enjoy yourself?”
With another swift kick, Diana knocked Livia to the ground, leaving her crying in pain. Yvette received another slap, which left her screaming and covering her face. A crowd quickly gathered, forming a tight circle around the scene.
“What’s happening here?” Aaron pushed his way through the crowd, arriving just in time to see Diana pulling Yvette by her hair while slapping her. Spotting Aaron, Diana quickly let go.
Yvette crawled toward Aaron, tears streaming down her face. “Aaron, you saw everything. Ms. Grant hit me, and she hit my sister too. I’m calling the police; you have to testify for me.”
Aaron turned to Diana, who just shrugged him off in anger. After a moment of silence, Aaron said, “I’m sorry, but I didn’t see anything.”
A shocked murmur swept through the crowd. Lacey looked at Airon in disbelief and gave him a thumbs up. Ellie was equally stunned, realizing that Aaron, known for always telling the truth, had chosen to ignore what was clear.
