“To you, it’s just breaking up with Aaron, but to me, it’s all an excuse. You’re hurting him! Haley, we really can’t be friends!” Ellie said firmly.
Haley shot back, “We’ve known each other for so many years. Why could we talk about anything
efore but can’t now?”
Ellie replied, “You’ve been with Aaron for over two years. Why was it okay for you two to be together back then but not now?”
The two glared at each other and then fell into a heavy silence. Inley had no response, tears down her cheeks as she
turned and walked away.
“Haley!” Alex’s flashy sports car screeched to a halt at the roadside, and he jumped out to chase after her.
“It’s your fault!” Haley cried as she pushed Alex away. “Listen carefully, Alex. As long as Ellie doesn’t forgive me, I won’t have anything to do with you!” With that, she pushed Alex aside and got into her car, driving off.

“What did you even say to her?” Alex grabbed Ellie as she was about to hop on the bus, his voice practically gritting through his teeth/
Ellie tried to shake free from Alex’s grip, struggling for a while without success. Watching the bus slowly leave the station, she finally gave up on breaking away.
She didn’t have the energy to argue with him. Standing by the roadside, she let Alex hold her arm while she waited for him to keep pushing.
“Go apologize to Haley!” Alex’s voice cut through the air like a warning.
Ellie met his gaze. “I didn’t do anything wrong!”
His expression darkened, tightening his grip on her arm instinctively. “Whether you’re wrong or not, you still have to apologize!”
Ellie shot back, “Why on earth should I?!”
Alex answered through clenched jaws, “It doesn’t matter why! She’s upset because of you, so you owe her an apology!”
Tears of frustration welled in Ellie’s eyes as she continued to fight against his grip. She stepped back, rubbing her sore arm, and stated firmly, “The one who needs to apologize is her!”
The traffic light turned green, and Ellie turned to leave. Even if Haley had broken up with Aaron, she still owed him an apology.
“Ellie!” From behind, Alex grabbed her arm again. “Come with me to find Haley and apologize to her!”
Ellie was agitated and yanked her arm free. “I told you I’m not going! Even if Aaron isn’t like you, you’re the third wheel. You openly took Aaron’s girlfriend! You’re the one in the wrong!
“It was Haley who got together with you without breaking up with Aaron first. For over a month, she wavered between the two of you, and she ended her relationship with Aaron in the most disdainful way possible. She hurt Aaron. She’s the one who’s wrong!”

With a strong shove, Ellie pushed Alex aside and sprinted toward the road. At that moment, the yellow light flicked on, and a car sped through a red light, alarming pedestrians on both sides of the street!
