Ellie pushed Alex away, and her gaze turned to him, filled with skepticism. She genuinely doubted whether he had really lost his memory. Noticing the change in Ellie’s demeanor, Alex immediately adopted a more serious attitude.
He pointed to his face and then rolled up his sleeve, exposing an inflamed injury on his arm. “This inflammation is because
of you.”
“Come with me.” Ellie said, glancing at the obviously inflamed wound on Alex’s arm and then at Linda, who was waiting by the door of the ward. Ellie discreetly led Alex out.
In the outpatient clinic, Alex sat in Ellie’s usual position while she fetched his medication and settled the b Alex out of there, she was willing to invest her time and money to avoid a verbal fight with him.

“Take the anti–inflammatory twice a day, one tablet each time. Clean the wound and apply ointment morning and night. Avoid any heavy activities that might strain your arm. If you have any problems, feel free to come back for a check–up,” Ellie said.
She methodically took out each medication bottle and explained to Alex how and when to use them, then carefully placed them back into the bag and set it in front of him.
When Alex refused to get up from his chair, Ellie struggled to keep her frustration in check. “I need to work now; please leave if there’s nothing else.”
“What if I can’t find you later?” Alex asked, staring at Ellie as he placed his phone on the table. Ellie glanced at the phone and then back to him. The words “Give me your number‘ seemed almost written on his forehead.
Trying to stay calm, Ellie pulled out a scrap of paper and wrote her phone number down for Alex. He leisurely took out his phone, dialed the number, and, upon seeing his number displayed on Ellie’s screen, finally stood up with satisfaction.
“Your attitude is quite decent,” Alex remarked, taking a couple of steps before pausing. He locked his gaze onto Ellie’s face. “I’m feeling a bit thirsty, would you be so kind as to get me a glass of water?”
Ellie was momentarily speechless. She felt in her pocket and pulled out a carton of milk that her daughter had given her before she left. She extended it toward Alex, saying, “Here, enjoy some milk.
Seeing Alex standing there with his hands in his pockets, leaning forward with his mouth open, waiting to be fed, Ellie’s expression hardened.
She inserted a straw and placed it on the table, saying, “You are difficult.” Alex quipped as he bent down to take a sip and then. turned to leave.
As Alex exited the clinic, Ellie finally let out a sigh of relief. She decided that she needed to keep a much greater distance from him in the future.
“Alex!” Quinlee rushed forward as soon as Alex stepped out of the clinic.
“Who are you?” Alex asked, sipping his milk and casting a sidelong glance at Quinlee,
Quinlee forced a laugh, assuming Alex was purposely ignoring her.
‘Alex, don’t believe those rumors; I had nothing to do with the rident five years ago,” she explained, feeling guilty, but Alex wasn’t receptive.
“You’re insane,” he muttered under his breath before leaving.
Stung by Alex’s words, Quinlee stood frozen in the hallway. Watching him walk away, she felt a twinge at the corners of her mouth.

Quinlee had initially thought he would spend at least twenty or thirty years locked up. To her surprise, he had been released quickly, and now he was entangled with Ellie again.
