Chapter 560
Nancy’s reaction shocked the young man next to Alex. He grew even more alarmed when Ellie appeared from behind the curtain.
“Clean yourself up and get out.” Alex felt his focus returning.
When he saw Barry at the doorway, Alex asked, “How did my Mom end up here?”
Barry stammered, glancing nervously at Ellie. Nancy was worried that her son might get involved with a widow, and she wanted to keep an eye on him.
“You too, leave,” Alex said, pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration.
Soon, only Ellie and Alex were left in the room. As she realized the misunderstanding, Ellie looked at Alex on the sofa and picked up the two bags by the couch, preparing to leave.
However, Alex let his fingers snag one of the bags, causing her to stop. “Ellie, how do you deal with a headache?” Alex said, his eyes shut as he leaned back against the sofa, releasing his grip on the bag.
Ellie, noticing the crease in Alex’s tired brow, answered, “Drinking some honey water or tomato juice might help. You can also ask your assistant to massage your temples or put a cold compress on your head.
“If it’s really painful, taking ibuprofen or acetaminophen would work. And if it’s unbearable, you might also think about taking one tablet of torasemide,” Ellie advised, glancing at Alex.
“A doctor’s massage would definitely be more reliable,” she added softly, watching Alex lean closer to her. Despite still reclining on the sofa, his eyes remained closed.
Seeing Alex in this discomfort brought back a distant memory for Ellie. She remembered that summer when she first got her period. She had been hiding in the bathroom, crying in panic, thinking she was going to die.
It was Alex who found her, somehow getting a pack of sanitary pads. She awkwardly changed the pad with him standing outside, reading notes about a girl’s menstrual cycle on his phone.
That night, when cramps kept her awake, Alex had gently massaged her abdomen through her clothing until she finally fell asleep.
She was thirteen then, and he was twenty. Ellie slowly relaxed her grip on the bags and set them down. She knelt beside Alex to massage his temples.
But Alex was leaning back so far that she could barely reach him. “Sit up; I can’t reach you,” Ellie urged.
“Come up here,” Alex replied, his voice tired but firm. He grabbed Ellie’s wrist, pulling her closer. She knelt on the sofa, pressing on his temples.
Ellie asked, “Was that young man your new driver?”
“Yes, he just got back from military service,” Alex replied shortly.
Just a moment ago, Ellie had heard Nancy’s voice from behind the window, but she didn’t mention it. “Do you burning in your stomach?”

Alex’s head slowly leaned toward Ellie. As she was about to push him away, she realized he had fallen asleep. He was breathing evenly, eyes closed, with his hand unconsciously wrapped around her waist.
