At eight o’clock the next morning. Alex stepped out of the elevator right on time. “Don’t forget to remind me about the blind date at two o’clock,” he told Barry as he settled into the back seat of the car.
Barry, sitting in the passenger seat, turned to face Alex. After a moment, Barry gathered his thoughts. “Mr. Warren, what did you say?”
With a tired look on his face. Alex leaned back in the luxurious car and pinched the bridge of his nose.
He explained. “My Mom made a big scene at my place last night. She thought I was gay, and she almost took Luck away with her. Now she insists I go on this blind date.”
“But what about Ellie?” Barry asked.
“If I tell my Mom that I have feelings for a widow, she might just have a meltdown.” Just thinking about the situation made Alex feel downcast.
Barry said, “Mr. Warren, Jerome had a meeting last night and spoke to the media, suggesting that you have a questionable past. He hinted that you used underhanded tactics to manipulate your way into the board.”
Alex let out a heavy sigh filled with disdain. “Right now, our top priority is to put together a core team. If we don’t, everything else we do won’t matter.
“Once I have a solid position at Warren Group, I’ll take on those old–timers one by one.”
“Yes, Mr. Warren,” Barry said, stealing another glance at Alex.
Though Alex had returned, the Warren family was in decline. Their control had been stripped away, and Warren Group was being secretly taken over by the board members.
The core team that Alex had worked hard to build had been broken down over the past five years. The only assistant left, Chris, had become just a supervisor in the sales department.
Luckily, five years ago, Alex had given Chris a generous check of 20 million for operational expenses. This allowed him to survive and stay at Warren Group while quietly scouting and keeping a few key individuals.
Although Alex had returned through unconventional means, the real power had already been seized. Every direction coming from the CEO’s office was now ineffective.
In the past, Alex could have fixed these issues almost overnight. His restraint now was proof of the heavy toll those five years had taken on him.

A few days later, Ellie arrived at Bondie Private Hospital and was immediately confronted by Quinlee at the elevator. “Did you throw away my things?” Quinlee demanded.
Seeing Quinlee’s furious face, ready for a public confrontation, Ellie chose to stay silent and walked toward the director’s office. Quinlee followed closely, shouting, “Ellie, stop right there.”
“I did.”
“How dare you?” Quinlee said, not finishing her sentence as Ellie’s sharp interruption made her stop.
In the hallway, Ellie shot a warning look at Quinlee. “Let’s handle this in Mark’s office. If you keep making a scene in public, you’ll be asked to leave the hospital.”
