Chapter 565
Before she could steady her heels, Alex’s car pulled away, not even rolling down the window to say goodbye. Ellie walked toward her own car. “This was the real Alex.
At his beck and call, he could be incredibly generous, yet he could flip to ruthless when things turned against him.
“Ellie, was that Alex’s car?” Lacey suddenly popped up from behind, startling Ellie. “Have you two made up?” Lacey asked.
“Mark is in the office; you should find him.” Ellie gently nudged Lacey towards Mark’s direction before climbing into her
own car.
“Right, I’ve come for something important. I’ll talk to you later. Lacey waved as she rushed off to find Mark.
Lacey entered Mark’s office where Mark was locking up several confidential medical files in a cabinet. “Can you leave for the day?” she asked with an eager expression.
Mark returned to his desk, shutting his laptop without a rush. He leaned against the desk, looking refined as he held a pen between his fingers.
When he saw Lacey’s excited face, he smiled. “Honey, do you miss me so much that one day apart feels like forever?”
“Of course. It’s so boring at home without you, Mark,” Lacey said, placing her bag down and moving behind him, offering him coffee and a gentle shoulder rub.
“Mark, I need to talk to you about something,” she finally said.
Mark sighed, taking Lacey’s hand and pulling her closer. He sat in his office chair while she leaned against the desk, facing him. He held her tiny hand and tilted his head slightly, asking, “Have you gotten into trouble?”
Lacey shook her head. Mark pressed on, “Have you set your sights on another treasure?*
Lacey shook her head again. She wouldn’t dare gamble in her current situation. “Mark, I want to leave the town for a few days,” Lacey confessed after some hesitation.
Mark raised an eyebrow. Lacey looked a bit guilty. Suddenly, Mark wrapped his arms around her waist and lifted her onto the desk.
Lacey exclaimed, covering her face with her hands, nearly squealing. Mark leaned closer, his hands on either side of her on the desk, keeping their gazes level.
He stared deeply into Lacey’s eyes and spoke deliberately, “Now, be a good girl and tell me why you suddenly want to leave the town.” A moment of eye contact lasted just a few seconds until Lacey finally relented.
Lacey buried her head shyly against his chest, unable to meet his eyes. She said, her voice trembling, “I want to see my idol.”
Mark straightened up, his expression curious. “Who are you after?”
“Sebastian Emerson, that international superstar,” Lacey’s voice trailed off as she spoke. After she finished, she looked up to see Mark’s reaction, meeting his chiseled jawline.
“We just registered our marriage, and our families are keeping a close eye on us. We should discuss this later,” Mark said gently, pushing Lacey away a bit.
“Mark, if you can help me just for a few days, I promise I’ll be quick about it,” Lacey pleaded, sliding down from the desk and clinging to his arm. Mark’s eyes flickered at her cute demeanor tugging at his arm.
He suddenly pulled her into a tight embrace. Lacey asked, “Mark?”

Chapter 565
“My cousin and a few colleagues are outside watching on us, so don’t give them any clues,” Mark warned, his expression serious as he held her close.
Lacey cuddled up to Mark, whispering softly, “Mark, remember to keep your expressions in check.”
“Got it, now close your eyes,” he said, casting a calm glance down the deserted corridor while tightening his grip around Lacey’s arms.
