A few days later at Bondie Private Hospital. Ellie had just arrived when she got a message from Alex asking to meet. With a few curt words, Ellie turned him down.
Just days before, in the hospital parking lot, Quinlee had shared some thoughts. Ellie was unsure how much of that Alex might have overheard.
That evening, Alex had questioned her several times, but she hadn’t admitted to hearing anything. Once Ellie got home, she quickly reported this to Mark and Jason.
At first, she thought Alex’s silence over the next few days meant the issue was forgotten. Then, unexpectedly, he reached out again today, and Ellie had a gut feeling this meeting was likely about Orion.
“Ellie, stop!” Quinlee said, pulling Ellie into an empty exam room.
“Did you tell Alex that his brother is still alive?” Quinlee asked with determination.
Ellie responded, “Did he come to see you?”
Quinlee’s face darkened. “Last night, I was kidnapped. They put a bag over my head and took me to a basement, demanding to know if Orion was in Bondie Private Hospital and if he was alive.”
Quinlee went on, “After we talked that day, I saw Alex behind you. He was looking for you; no one else would dare confront me like that.
“He heard what you said that night, and if this information gets out, it was because of you.”
Pushing Quinlee away, Ellie stepped out of the exam room.
“Ellie, this time you won’t get away unscathed.” Quinlee managed to collect herself before leaving the room as if nothing had happened.
“The wound is healing nicely; I will do my best to help you recover,” Ellie said as she looked at the scar on Linda’s left wrist. While stitching it up, she had been very careful, but the pink scar, about an inch long, was still clearly visible. Linda pulled her hand back. “I tend to form scars; they’re not easy to get rid of.”
“Don’t worry, this small mark isn’t a big deal,” Linda said, tugging at the sleeves of her nurse’s uniform to hide her injured
wrist.
“This injury happened at work; you shouldn’t have to pay for it,” Ellie reminded Linda. “Just try to be more careful in the future and protect yourself.” With that, she left the ward.
After Ellie left, Linda went into the patient room. She approached Orion’s wheelchair slowly. Looking at Orion, who sat up straight with half his face bandaged and a blank expression, Linda felt a mix of fear and sympathy.
A person with such strong morals, whose face was not only disfigured but also blind, would surely suffer mentally. She focused on Orion’s unmarred half–face and thought that if he hadn’t been injured, he would have been very handsome.
“Orion, a psychologist will be here shortly to see you, please try not to scare them,” Linda said as she carefully adjusted the blanket over Orion’s legs.
Just as she was pulling her hand away, Orion’s strong grip suddenly grabbed her left wrist. Orion remained still in his wheelchair, staring blankly ahead as his rough fingers gently traced the scar on Linda’s wrist.
“I’m sorry; if I have another episode, please leave me alone.” Orion’s deep voice carried a hint of regret as he released Linda’s

hand.
Seeing Orion all alone, Linda moved closer to him. She knew that Orion’s mental scars would take time to heal, her the believed that even a small step forward would bring him a bit of happiness, and she couldn’t just walk away
With a bright smile, she encouraged him, “Orion, don’t say things like that. As long as you’re in this ward, I’m here to take care of you.
“Orion, you need to cooperate with the doctors; the sooner you get better, the sooner you can see your family.
