The sweet, melodic tones of her voice reached Orion’s ears, and he felt a bit of tension leave his facial muscles. “Could you get me some threads?” Orion suddenly asked.
“Would braiding threads work? We have some in the cupboard,” Linda said, and when Orion nodded, she stood up.
Linda looked at the cupboard and sheepishly scratched her head. “Orion, could you wait while I get a ladder? I can’t reach the higher cupboard.”
Orion stood up and reached out for Linda. She rushed over, and he placed a hand on her shoulder, allowing her to guide him to the cupboard.
Orion reached out to check the height. “Orion, you’re just a bit short.” Linda jumped beside him and failed to reach, feeling helpless.
With the height difference between them, and Orion’s muscular build from years in special forces, Linda looked even smaller and more fragile beside him.
“Come closer,” Orion urged.
“Orion, even you can’t reach it; I certainly can’t with my short legs; I’ve already tried.” Before Linda could finish, Orion’s large hands wrapped around her waist. In an instant, he lifted her with ease.
“Orion, you’re amazing! Just a little to the left,” Linda instructed as Orion adjusted his position, letting her open the cupboard and throw down a travel bag.

Just when Quinlee thought Orion had dropped Linda, he caught her with one hand and held her in his arms.
Almost right after that, Orion pushed Quinlee aside, and Linda landed safely on the ground.
“Um, you two talk; I’ll step out for a moment,” Linda said nervously when she saw Quinlee glaring with anger, misunderstanding the whole situation. She quickly exited the room.
Hiding in the fire escape, Linda was breathless, her heart racing. That was scary. She thought that if Quinlee didn’t finish her off, Orion might. Thankfully, she was still alive to think about it.
“So this is where you’ve been.” Just as Linda was catching her breath, Quinlee stormed in and yanked her hair, slapping Linda twice across the face. “You shameless girl, how dare you try to seduce your brother–in–law?”
Dazed from the hits, Linda barely steadied herself against the stair railing when Quinlee lunged at her again. “I was born without parents, and I have no family. You are not my sister!”
Linda broke free from Quinlee’s grip and slapped her back. Quinlee, holding her face, seethed. “You, a bastard thrown out by the Janssen family, aren’t even worthy of being my maid. How dare you hit me?”
Quinlee added, “I am Orion’s fiancée, the future Mrs. Warren. You try to compete with me for him?”
Furious, Quinlee charged at Linda, who, worried things might get worse, turned and ran. A young man appeared from the shadows and hurried away.
