Chapter 573
“Stop playing games and just tell me why you’ve been hiding Orion in your hospital,” Alex interrupted.
“When did he come back? How? What happened to his face? How did he lose his sight?” Alex couldn’t hold back his urgent need to understand what had happened to Orion.
“It wasn’t us who hid Orion; it was the government,” Mark revealed that Jason had secretly brought Orion back to hide him in the Bondie Private Hospital.
Mark cautioned, “Mr. Warren, you’ve just come out of prison. You should know that the Warren family isn’t what it used to be. It’s going to take time to establish yourself in the Warren Group and the business world.
“Right now, making enemies is a risk you can’t afford. Orion is completely blind, has serious facial injuries, and is also suffering from acute post–traumatic stress disorder.
“Given the current situation, bringing him home isn’t a smart choice.”
Alex struggled to control his breathing, falling into a heavy silence. Ellie stayed quiet, realizing his eagerness to reconnect with Orion and his impatience to take Orion back to his parents.
She also believed Alex wouldn’t recklessly expose Orion to the public. He might have his flaws, but he fiercely protects his family.
“I can keep your secret and won’t tell my parents for now, but you must promise that I can visit him anytime.” After what felt like an eternity, Alex finally made up his mind.
Mark responded, “No problem. Mr. Warren, come by tomorrow for hospitalization. That way, you’ll be able to visit Orion’s room, but you need to keep this confidential.”
“The payment for the hospitalization must be made upfront; you can’t use your insurance,” Mark added as he prepared to leave, only to be stopped by Ellie.
“Ellie, you’ve done well; I know you can handle this role,” Mark said with a reassuring glance before stepping out of the conference room.
Feeling a bit dazed, Ellie agreed to the arrangement after a brief moment of confusion. She approached the door to secure it before turning to Alex. “Was it Quinlee who told you that Orion is alive?”
“She used to be Orion’s fiancée, so finding personal information about her wasn’t too hard,” Alex replied as he stood in front of Ellie, his eyes drawn to the bruises on her wrist.
Gingerly, Alex reached for Ellie’s hand, but she flinched away. His hand lingered awkwardly in the air before falling down. She had pieced together the likely scenario.
That picture Yvette had was probably given to her by Quinlee. By reaching out to Alex, Quinlee had inadvertently accomplished two goals–revealing the truth about Orion’s survival and letting the Warren family know that it was Quinlee who saved Orion.
If Ellie hadn’t acted quickly, Yvette might have spilled the beans about Alex’s memory loss. Ellie urgently needed to come up with a plan to silence Yvette.
Burdened by her thoughts, Ellie left without saying goodbye to Alex. He followed her out, blocking her at the conference room door. “I was too hasty earlier; let me help you with your injury.”
As Alex reached out once more to grasp Ellie’s bruised wrist, she pushed him away. “There’s no need to worry about me, Mr. Warren. I have plenty of people who can help me when I get home,” Ellie said before hurrying off.
Barry, after buying ointment at Alex’s request, saw Ellie leave and cautiously handed the packaging to Alex.
