Noticing his mischievous demeanor, she lowered her gaze to her list of tasks. “It’s just for show; there’s no need for a consultation,” she said dismissively.
“I’ve had a sore mouth all night and couldn’t manage breakfast this morning” Alex leaned in, thrusting his face closer to Ellie’s as if to have her inspect his mouth.
Holding her pen tightly, Ellie’s eyes quickly darted to the injury on his lower lip. Remembering how she had bitten him after he kissed her passionately in the car last night, she scolded him in her heart and looked
away.
“How did it become so swollen?” she asked. Though she had bitten him in a moment of instinct, this seemed like an
excessive reaction.
“I licked it,” Alex replied, his steady gaze locked on Ellie. She focused on the medical record in front of her, trying to avoid his flirtatious look.
Taking a deep breath, Ellie began typing rapidly on the keyboard, presenting him with the outpatient card. “All set. Go pay the fee for the examination. I’ll take you to Orion’s ward later.”
Upon hearing that they would reunite after the check–up, Alex stopped with the flirty remarks, took the card, and stood to leave.
“Wait a moment,” Ellie said as she handed him a mask. “Put this on.”
Intentionally licking his wounded lower lip, Alex leaned in closer and said, “I won’t wear it. If anyone asks, I’ll just tell them Ellie did this to me.” With that, he pushed open the consultation room door and exited.
Ellie sighed in frustration. Alex continued with the procedure while Ellie made her way to Orion’s ward.
“Orion is in good spirits today. I just replaced the dressing on his facial wounds; he should be ready for visitors,” Linda said as she carried the sheets and Orion’s clothes to be washed.
Upon hearing that Orion was feeling better, Ellie felt a weight lift from her shoulders. “Linda, has Quinlee not visited in the past few days?”
Just hearing Quinlee’s name made Linda’s sunny demeanor darken. “Ever since that day, she hasn’t been around. She’s called. Orion several times, crying pitifully.
“She asked Orion to replace me, but he refused. It seems she’s throwing a tantrum. Honestly, if I could be replaced by someone else, I would be thrilled; I truly dislike Quinlee.”
Ellie felt similarly frustrated. Gently, she patted Linda’s shoulder. “Just treat her like she’s air. If she tries to bother you, stand your ground. We won’t give in to her.”
“Oh, by the way, Ellie, Orion requested a laptop and a waterproof USB drive,” Linda suddenly remembered and quickly informed Ellie.
“Sure. I’ll drop them off before my shift ends,” Ellie replied. She wasn’t sure what Orion needed those items for, but she assumed it must be important.
Just then, Quinlee entered; Ellie informed Quinlee about Orion needing a laptop and USB before stepping outside.
Quinlee thought, ‘Finally, after such a long wait, Orion can start his recovery. Once I got that stuff, I can free myself from those people and become Mrs. Warren.
Turning back, Ellie saw Quinlee hastily leaving and calmly rose from her seat.
Quinlee inadvertently bumped into Alex while leaving, who quickly pushed her aside with a disdainful look and said, “Watch

Feigning ignorance, she casually asked that. She had just left Yvette’s apartment, feeling anxious about her plans. To her surprise, everything had gone smoothly, and the hefty check she gave Yvette wasn’t wasted.

Now, Alex was completely convinced that she saved Orion. He believed Ellie was deliberately hiding the fact that Orion was alive from the Warren family. Quinlee felt a thrill anticipating the confrontation between Alex and Ellie.
She looked forward to the Warren family recognizing her as Orion’s savior. She longed for Orion’s parents to beg her to marry him.
Alex suddenly said, “Did you come out to pick me up?”
Hearing Alex’s warm voice, Quinlee snapped back to reality. Watching as Alex subtly tried to lean closer to Ellie, who brushed him off, made Quinlee’s heart sink.
