Through the blinds, Ellie saw Quinlee enter Orion’s room, her hands nervously clenching each other tightly.
Today was supposed to be Ellie’s day off; she’d rushed over at dawn when Orion called abruptly. She hadn’t anticipated today would be the day they’d spring their trap.
Jason had been incredibly busy and scarcely seen these past few days. His phone call warning her to leave was because he didn’t want Quinlee to see her and cause trouble.
But with Orion unable to see and Linda alone inside, Ellie wasn’t sure Linda could handle it. After a brief hesitation, Ellie decided to stay hidden a bit longer to observe how things unfolded.
In the hospital room, Quinlee walked in, her high heels clicking against the floor.
“Where the hell is that lazy girl Linda hiding now?” she muttered under her breath. Noticing the ajar door leading to the inner room, Quinlee slowed her pace.
Peeking through the gap, she saw Orion typing away on his computer.
The rhythmic sound of the keys made Quinlee’s heart skip a beat. She thought, ‘Could it be that Orion isn’t really blind and he’s just pretending?”
She glanced at her watch–it was almost noon, a time for family gatherings. Yet, Orion was all alone.
She thought, ‘It seems the Warren family hasn’t figured out he’s still alive. Otherwise, there’s no way Alex wouldn’t have come to take Orion home for Thanksgiving!
Quinlee couldn’t see the screen clearly from her distance. Suddenly getting an idea, she pushed the door open and stepped inside. “Orion, what are you working on?”
Orion swiftly closed his laptop just as Quinlee approached, her eyes catching a glimpse of some data on the screen.
Quinlee’s eyes narrowed. She thought, ‘If I saw it right, Orion is replicating that top–secret data. He’s starting to remember.
“Orion, can I use your laptop to check an email?” Quinlee asked tentatively as she moved closer to Orion’s laptop, only for him to grab her wrist firmly.
“You can’t use this laptop,” Orion said, his empty gaze solemn. Quinlee sighed with relief, confident that he was indeed blind.
“Oh, Orion, didn’t you mention you needed a document done? Have you finished it?” Quinlee asked again, eyes fixed on the metallic USB drive plugged into the laptop.
She reached out tentatively, but Orion was quicker, yanking out the USB drive and clenching it in his fist.
“It’s complete,” Orion declared as he wheeled himself back towards the bed.
“Orion, where’s Linda?” Quinlee’s eyes flickered uncertainly.
“She has the day off for Thanksgiving,” Orion replied.
Quinlee stood still, watching as Orion settled back onto the bed to rest. Her focus remained intensely on the metallic USB drive clenched in Orion’s hand.
“Orion, let me get you a glass of water,” Quinlee said, placing her bag down and heading to fetch some water.
With her back to Orion, she quickly dropped a white pill into the glass. Her palms grew sweaty from nerves as she shook the water to dissolve the pill before bringing it over to Orion’s bedside. “Here, take a sip before you sleep.”

Orion propped himself up and drank a few sips of the water, then lay back down.

I need to rest now. Please close the door on your way out. Thanks Orion’s tone was cold and dismissive. Quinlee quickly agreed, grabbed her bag, and left the room, closing the door softly behind her.
On the bed, Orion pulled up the blanket to cover the soaked spot on his chest.
Standing outside the hospital room, Quinlee silently counted down in her mind. A few minutes later, she cautiously re- entered the room.
“Orion?” She called out a few times, receiving no response from the still figure on the bed. Quinlee’s tense nerves finally relaxed.
