Chapter 594
At 10 a.m., at the Thompson residence, West Suburb No. 7, Nalani arrived with Jared Mosley.
“I saw the news last night, and I just couldn’t sleep all night. Haley really hid things well!” Nalani said, clearly satisfied at the thought of how Haley ended.
Ellie was sitting with them, chatting on the couch, while the kids were in front of the floor–to–ceiling windows, building with Legos.
“She brought it on herself,” Ellie said calmly. “No sympathy for her.” Haley’s downfall was her own doing, and Ellie didn’t feel bad about it.
“Let’s stop talking about that woman,” Whitney quickly cut in and changed the subject. “Since Ellie is free, how about we have dinner together tonight? Nalani, call Layton and let him join us.”
“I’m not calling him,” Nalani said, her face darkening at the mention of Layton.
Whitney’s expression turned serious. “Did you two fight?”
Nalani glanced at Ellie, hesitating before speaking. “Ever since Alex came back, Layton hasn’t had a peaceful day. He’s always going out in the middle of the night, sometimes not coming back until morning.”
Ellie exchanged looks with Whitney and Joanna.
Whitney sighed. “Layton and Alex have been close since they were kids, always sticking together. If they want to go out for drinks, you should just let it go.”
Nalani wasn’t done, though. “You don’t get it. A few days ago, when I wasn’t home, Layton took the twins to see Alex. Alex’s cat scratched the younger girl on the leg. She was so scared she cried for a week straight–day and night.
“Seeing her pitiful look, the older girl cried too. It drove me crazy!”
The more Nalani spoke, the angrier she got. “He actually took two babies to meet Alex! Sometimes I wonder if I’m his partner or if Alex is. If he keeps doing this, I’ll just divorce him and take the kids back to my family!”
Whitney and Ellie were both speechless.
“How about this,” Whitney said, sighing as she tried to calm her niece down, “Invite Layton for dinner tonight, and I’ll talk to him.”
The bond between Layton and Alex was strong, and everyone knew they were close. Considering Alex had just gotten out of prison after five years, their connection made sense to Whitney.
However, Nalani didn’t want to trouble anyone. “Don’t bother. Let’s bring the kids and go to the Earl Hotel for dinner tonight. I’ll have everything set up ahead of time, and we can just go there in the evening.”

Meanwhile, in the CEO’s office at the Warren Group, Alex had just finished a high–level meeting.
Chris said as he placed a cup of coffee on the desk, “Mr. Warren, several vice presidents are playing both sides, working together to prevent you from regaining full control.”
“Chris,” Alex asked with a cold smile, “What do you think a young widow wants?”
Chris adjusted his glasses, unsure how to respond. “Mr. Warren, I think we’ve gotten off track here,” he politely reminded, keeping things professional.

“She has a job, kids, and is pretty–she shouldn’t be lacking in suitors. What do you think a woman like that really wants?” Alex paused, imagining Ellie’s indifferent expression paired with her hot figure, and couldn’t help but let out a low whistle.
“Mr. Warren, I don’t know much about widows, Chris stammered, standing awkwardly in front of Alex’s desk. He wondered, Is he interested in one of them?
Alex leaned on the edge of the desk and slowly stood up, patting Chris on the shoulder. “I wasn’t asking you to approach them. I’m just asking–what kind of man do you think a widow would prefer? Do I still have a shot?”
Before Chris could respond, a purse suddenly flew through the air and hit Alex in the head. “What the hell are you talking
about?
