Chapter 600
O
The next morning at Bondie Private Hospital, Ellie had just changed into her clothes when Alex knocked and walked in.
Alex was dressed in a sleek black business suit, looking sharp with his side–parted hair styled effortlessly. The only accessory he wore was a limited–edition men’s watch on his left wrist, which was a far cry from the “peacock” from the night before,
“I’m not on shift. What’s up?” Ellie asked when Alex stepped in without saying anything, just standing there and staring at her. Noticing the dark circles under his eyes, she added, “Did the sleeping pills I gave you last time not work?”
“You didn’t answer my calls or text back last night.” Alex’s gaze locked onto Ellic, his tone serious.
“Don’t you need to work, Mr. Warren?” Ellie asked, trying to steer the conversation away from the inappropriate picture Alex had sent her last night.
Alex frowned. “Don’t change the subject.”
Ellie glanced at Alex’s business suit and stayed quiet.
Alex explained, “The picture I sent you last night was closer to how I usually look. As for last night, I…”
“Mrs. Warren is here!” Before Alex could finish, Barry, in his usual flustered manner, barged in without even knocking.
“She’s up so early at her age. And how did she follow me here?” Alex scanned himself from head to toe, feeling like Nancy had planted a tracker on him.
“Ms. Jefferson you went on a blind date with last night–she was so upset when she got home, and she fainted.
“Mrs. Warren came looking for you this morning and ran into you leaving. She decided to follow you to see if you’re hooking up with a…” Barry whispered, glancing at Ellie and stopping himself before he could say anything more.
Ellie was about to sit down when Alex crouched down and crawled under her desk. “Help me!”
“Get out!” Ellie hissed. If Nancy found out Alex was hiding under her desk, no amount of explaining could save her. Just as she was about to bend down and drag Alex out, he grabbed her wrist.
Alex smirked. “If my mom thinks you’re involved with me, I’ll just tell her you’re the one flirting with me.”
Ellie was speechless.
“Barry, where is Alex?” Hearing Nancy’s voice, Ellie quickly let go of Alex’s hands. Nancy appeared at the office door, pointing at Barry.
“I’m not sure, Mrs. Warren. I was just coming to find Mr. Warren and happened to see Dr. Thompson. I wanted to stop by and say hello,” Barry stammered, not daring to look up.
Ellie frowned slightly. She thought, ‘Birds of a feather flock together. Once Barry has been hanging around Alex for so long that he has learned to lie.
“Ellie,” Nancy walked in, greeting Ellie with a smile.
Alex, still hiding under the desk, heard Nancy call Ellie affectionately. He poked her calf with his finger, but Ellie kicked him lightly, causing him to stop.
“If you need to talk, I can take you to the lounge,” Ellie offered, trying to get Nancy to leave. However, to her surprise, Nancy didn’t leave. Instead, she walked right up to Ellie’s desk.
The two were separated by nothing but the desk and Nancy sighed. “Ellie, how are you and the kids doing?”

Nancy was taken aback by Ellie’s cold rejection. Her expression shifted, and with a nervous laugh, she took a step back. “I’m sorry… I overstepped, didn’t I?”
“If there’s nothing else, I need to get back to work. Please leave.” Ellie gripped her hands nervously at her sides, afraid that Nancy might say something inappropriate.
“Mrs. Warren, I just saw Mr. Warren get into the elevator,” Barry noticed the awkward tension in the air and, with a wince, threw out another lie.
“Sorry for taking up your time.” Nancy seemed to remember something, her eyes slightly red as she turned to leave Ellie’s office. She looked back at Ellie several times after walking out.
