“Haley, you told Aaron how hard it was for you and how much pressure you were under while sending mixed signals to Alex and letting him chase after you like crazy.
“Then you turn around to find all sorts of excuses to nitpick at Aaron. And finally, you stand in front of him, demanding a breakup while acting like you’re the wronged party, saying it’s all his fault!“.
Haley opened her mouth, speechless.
“Aaron doesn’t need you to survive. You didn’t have to act like this!” After saying this, Ellie turned and walked away.
“Even so, I hope that when Alex proposes to me next time, you’ll be there!” Haley’s words left Ellie at a loss. It was as if Haley thought everyone would just cater to her, like a pampered princess
If Ellie hadn’t seen the things on Alex’s phone, she wouldn’t have believed that Haley could do this behind Aaron’s back. What was the difference between this and betrayal?

After forcing herself out for a break, Ellie returned to the hospital with a heavy heart and continued her shift. The whole afternoon she was completely out of it. As it neared the end of her workday, she hid in the break room to call Aaron.
Hearing a commotion outside, Ellie quickly hung up and stepped out. She was shocked to see a crowd gathered in the hallway. With her sharp eyes, she spotted a young man holding a knife, charging at some medical staff.
“Professor Bell!” Ellie’s heart skipped a beat, and instinctively she rushed to protect her mentor. But just then, a figure swooped down over her. Ellie screamed in fear, unable to make a sound!
With a deep grunt from above, she looked up. “What are you doing here?”
“What the hell were you thinking, letting yourself get chopped up?” Alex barked at Ellie, roughly pulling her into his
embrace.
Feeling Alex’s powerful heartbeat against her, Ellie’s own heart raced wildly in response!
They were in the plastic surgery department, and it wasn’t uncommon for patients or their families to lash out over mishaps or mishandled care.
The emergency room was a chaotic mess. The attacker was quickly subdued, and it wasn’t until the crowd was fully evacuated that Alex finally let go of Ellie.
Still rattled, Ellie only noticed Alex’s arm was injured when one of her colleagues pointed it out. She accompanied him to the ER, where the medical staff would tend to his wound.
“Don’t forget to give me some anesthesia!” Alex’s uninjured hand gripped Ellie’s wrist tightly, refusing to let go.
Ellie’s mind drifted back to the last time she had stitched him up without any painkillers, and a wry smile tugged at her lips, though she said nothing.
After the wound was treated, the hospital offered Alex a private room to stay overnight for observation, but Alex insisted he wanted to stay

Alex looked at her for a moment, then pulled a small box from his pocket. “Take a look. If you don’t like it, I’ll get you something else.”
Ellie glanced from Alex to the gift box, shaking her head and refusing to take it.
She knew that no matter how many arguments they had–she could argue endlessly with Alex–they always seemed to reconcile in the end. But with each fight, her heart drifted a little further from him, and she understood that one day, she’d be completely gone.
“Open it.” Alex said, seeing her hesitation as he reached for her hand. She dodged, and he persisted.
Ellie tried to step away, but Alex swiftly pulled her back, pressing her against the bed. With one hand pinning her down, Ellie lay there, flustered and panicked. “Alex!”
With a single hand, Alex opened the box to reveal a bracelet. “Your red string broke, I said I’d get you a new one. Put it on and let me see.“.
“I don’t want it!” she protested.
“Put it on!”
“I really don’t want to!”
“Stay still!”
Just then, Haley walked into the room, and what she saw made her jaw drop.
Ellie was lying on Alex’s lap, and Alex was practically cradling her their faces so close they could almost touch. The scene was utterly inappropriate, leaving Haley looking mortified. “What are you two doing?!”
