Ellie stood in front of the car and watched Alex carry things into the hall with Joanna, feeling a little anxious.
“Whitney,” Alex greeted Whitney generously as he entered and put things down.
Whitney was stunned to see Alex entering with Joanna, but she didn’t dare to ask any questions.
“You’ve come at the right time. Stay for lunch,” Whitney said politely. She turned and went back to the kitchen to ask the servant to cook a few more dishes.
“Here,” Ellie said, handing Alex a cup of tea when she saw that he was planning to stay for lunch.
She said, “Mr. Warren, your time is precious, and we’ve already taken up so much of it today. If you have something to do, please go ahead. I’ll-”
“It’s fine. No matter how busy I am, I still have to have lunch.” Alex took the tea Ellie handed him.
Ellie didn’t say anything else and silently went to the kitchen.
“Come here, girl.” Alex glanced at Ellie and stopped Betty, who was walking past him. “Why don’t you greet me?”
Betty was wearing children’s pajamas and cartoon slippers. With her hair scattered and a bed sheet draped on her body, she looked like a wild child.
“You’re not on my side,” Betty said maturely.
Alex didn’t know what to say.
Betty said, “Give me back my small drum. I want to find a more powerful dad.”
Alex was speechless.
Ellie said, “Betty, don’t be rude.”
Ellie came over, pulled Betty aside to coax her to play, and then came over to coax Alex, “Mr. Warren, I want to go back to Zerikith to get the spare car keys now. Can you give me a ride?”
Alex stood up and looked toward the kitchen. “No, let’s have lunch first.”
“I’ll treat you to lunch alone later.” Ellie frowned, deciding to get Alex out of here first.
Joanna and Whitney were just being polite. If they really ate at the same table, Alex would probably be the only one who wouldn’t feel awkward.
“Let’s go.” Hearing that Ellie wanted to have lunch with him alone, Alex agreed obediently.
“Your daughter is such a beautiful girl, but why she’s like a wild kid? She’s wearing pajamas and a bed sheet. So crazy,” Alex started the car and couldn’t help but complain.
He said, “She even wanted me to return the gift she gave me, and she wanted to find herself a new dad. Aren’t you gonna discipline her?”
Ellie turned to look at Alex and then pursed her lips. She didn’t know what to say.
She thought, ‘Like father, like daughter. The dad is so crazy, so how can the daughter be any better?‘
Ellie was lost in thought. She didn’t come back to herself until she heard the click of the seatbelt being unbuckled.

“Mr. Warren, Ellie called Alex as he pulled the handbrake and got out of the car.
Alex seemed not to hear her. He got out of the car and stared intently at the entrance of the Thompson residence.

It was noon, and the sunlight was scorching. Alex looked up, and the sunlight was so dazzling that he suddenly felt dizzy.
A series of chaotic images flashed through his mind, followed by a splitting headache. It hurt so much that Alex clutched his head and swayed.
As if pulled by an invisible force, Alex walked toward the entrance.
“Mr. Warren?” Seeing Alex staggering and clutching his head in pain, Ellie rushed to support him. “What’s wrong?”
Ellie tried to help Alex back into the car, but he resisted, and his body involuntarily moved toward the entrance.
“Get in the car. I’ll take you to the hospital. Ellie stopped him and helped him into the car.
“I think I’ve climbed this gate before,” Alex mumbled, pushing Ellie away.
Ellie’s heart skipped a beat when she heard Alex’s words. Before she could react, she heard a thud behind her.
Ellie turned around and saw that Alex had fainted at the entrance.
