In the evening, Alex arrived on time to pick Ellie up from work.

In the parking lot at the hospital entrance, Alex opened the trunk and said, “These shopping bags are for you, and these are for the kids…”
Ellie looked at the trunk full of gifts Alex had brought back from abroad for her and the kids, and then looked up at him. “You were that busy. How did you have time to buy these?”
Alex said, “I went to an auction with a few partners, and they were buying suitable things for their wives and kids. I don’t have any, so I thought of you guys.”

Alex started the car. “I think there’s something strange about the gate of the Thompson residence. Why don’t you hire a master to take a look?”
“I don’t believe in those things,” Ellie replied. As a doctor, she never believed in superstitions.
Alex said, “When I walked out that day, I felt like I was possessed when I saw the gate. I had a terrible headache. I think that place is haunted.”
Ellie remained silent as she listened to Alex’s rambling.

Alex chose the high–end restaurant at the Earl Hotel which was only open to VIPs. Ellie found a secluded booth and sat down.
“I’ve been too busy lately, but I’ll continue making the bracelet,” Alex said as he switched the cut steak with Ellie.
Ellie understood what he meant.
“Mr. Warren, your trip to Driolace was quite fruitful,” Ellie said, changing the subject subtly.
Alex stopped cutting the steak and looked up at Ellie.
“It’s after work. We’re talking about personal matters,” Alex said, emphasizing the words “personal matters“.
After that, he elegantly put a piece of steak into his mouth.

Ellie put down her fork, and her expression became serious.
