Afterward, Ellie fell into a deep sleep.
Alex, in a white bathrobe with wet hair, walked out of the bathroom. He stood by the bed, gazing at Ellie’s sleeping figure. Her long black hair fanned out on the pillow, her bare shoulder peeking from under the blanket. He couldn’t resist and bent down to kiss her lips.
Even after having two kids, she was still so irresistibly alluring. Last night, he’d lost control over and over again.
Unable to help himself, he brushed her lips again. Her soft, unconscious murmur reignited his fire. He quickly pulled the blanket up to her neck and left the bedroom at lightning speed.
“Report,” Alex said, leaning against the balcony railing in the living room, his robe loosely tied and a cigarette dangling from his lips.
Barry said over the phone, “That group climbed the emergency stairs to the seventh floor but suddenly retreated. They’re fast–we lost them!”
“They didn’t accomplish their goal. They’ll be back,” Alex said, his face partially obscured by the smoke.
After a few slow drags, he ordered, “Pick a few skilled and sharp men. From tomorrow, they’re on her 24/7. No slip–ups allowed.”
Once Barry left, Alex put out his cigarette and returned to the bedroom.
The next morning, Ellie was woken by Alex’s kisses–breathless and pinned beneath him before she was even fully awake.
“Let me up! I have to work, Ellie struggled, her voice hoarse from last night. Her mind foggy from Alex’s intensity, she just wanted to escape the bed.
Alex held her tightly, his kisses growing deeper. Sensing her resistance, he coaxed softly, “Just a kiss…”
Two hours later, Alex carried a thoroughly worn–out Ellie into the bathroom.
“When you’re cold to me, you’ve got endless energy. Now when you should be putting it to use, you’re like this?” Alex teased, carefully lowering her into the bathtub. He knelt beside it, washing her gently and attentively
Exhausted, Ellie lay in the warm water with her eyes closed, too drained to speak. After being completely worn out by Alex, she decided to take the morning off. Thoughts of the men who had followed her last night made her resolve to visit the hospital in the afternoon.
“It’s better if we keep this…. between us.” Ellie said later that afternoon, refusing Alex’s offer to drive her. Enduring her discomfort, she drove herself to the hospital and headed straight to Orion.
I’m certain they’re after me! If Haley hadn’t dragged me into this before she died, letting them know I worked on transcribing that medical data, I can’t think of anyone else I’ve offended”
In Orion’s highly secure hospital room, Ellie explained the situation in detail
Orion, who was blind and had limited mobility, was placed in this highly secure special hospital room as soon as he returned to Jaslands. As long as he stays in the room, he is safe.

Leaving Orion’s room, Ellie bumped into Lacey, who had come looking for Mark.
“How’d it go with Mark the other day?” Ellie asked, noticing Lacey’s unsettled mood and putting aside her own messy thoughts.
“Ellie, I don’t want to talk. I need to see Mark,” Lacey snapped, her voice trembling. Despite her makeup, she looked haggard.
Ellie felt a pang of worry seeing her like this. “Mark’s consulting on an emergency case right now. Let me take you to the lounge to rest,” Ellie offered gently.
“I know where he is. I need to see him now!” Lacey stormed into the elevator, ignoring Ellie’s attempt to stop her.
Thinking about how Lacey and Mark had such a huge fight a few days ago, and how two days ago Sebastian’s illegitimate child scandal broke, causing a huge blow to his career, Ellie couldn’t rest easy. She quickly went to catch up with Lacey.
Ten minutes later, in a hospital conference room, Mark was deep in discussion with a team of experts, planning a surgical procedure for a critically ill patient with a rare genetic vascular tumor.
Lacey suddenly barged in, catching Mark off guard.
“Excuse me,” Mark said, setting aside his materials and walking over to her.
“What, afraid I’ll expose your scheming, fake Dr. Grant persona to your colleagues?” Lacey accused, her voice sharp as she pulled away from his grip.
Mark frowned, his expression growing serious.
“Lacey!” Ellie entered the room, keeping her voice low as she tried to defuse the situation. “Mark is working—saving lives! Nothing’s more important than that. Let’s step outside first.”
“Saving lives?” Lacey scoffed, pointing at Mark. “He’s better at stabbing people in the back!”
Her words caused a stir in the room.
Mark restrained himself, speaking calmly. “There’s a patient waiting for a rescue plan. Let’s talk about this at home.”
An older doctor chimed in, “Mrs. Grant, disagreements happen in marriage, but don’t let it affect his work.”
“I’m not Mrs. Grant!” Lacey’s emotional outburst silenced the room.
“You’re out of line, Lacey!” For the first time, Ellie sided with Mark.
“You don’t know what he’s done, Ellie!” Lacey’s eyes turned red as she glared at Mark. “If it weren’t for him leaking the story, how would the reporters know about Sebastian’s illegitimate child?!”
Mark remained silent. His attempts to explain had already been dismissed once, and he saw no point in trying again.
Before he could respond, Lacey shouted, “So what if he has a child? I’d still choose him over you!”
The room fell into an awkward, stunned silence.
Ellie watched the two of them with a heavy heart, not knowing how to intervene. Lacey’s words were even more humiliating to Mark than if she had slapped him in front of everyone.
Mark clenched his jaw but calmly walked over to Lacey. Without another word, he took her wrist and led her out of the
room.

“We’re done, Divorce, Mark said quietly but firmly, stopping Lacey in her tracks.
Let go of Lacey, Mark turned around and went back to the meeting room to handle the awkward situation alone.
Ellie came out and pulled Lacey to the next break room.
