Chapter 76
“Stop the car!” Ellie suddenly shouted while Alex was on the phone with Haley. Alex braked instinctively.
Before Alex could say anything, Ellie quickly unfastened her seatbelt, jumped out, and ran toward the neighborhood without looking back.
Once inside the neighborhood, Ellie watched from afar as Alex’s car turned around and sped off as if he was racing to reach Haley instantly.
Her heart felt like it was being pricked by needles, a sharp pain. Ellie’s eyes turned red, and she took deep breaths to calm herself.
Fortunately, she heard it was Haley’s call and got out of the car in advance. Otherwise, she would have been kicked out by Alex again like the last two times.
With blurry vision, Ellie watched the direction where Alex’s car was leaving, then turned and walked back to her apartment building-
The next day at noon, Ellie arranged to meet Whitney at a restaurant near the hospital to apologize for not making it the previous night.
“I saw everything last night. I was afraid it would be awkward to greet, Whitney said.
Hearing Whitney mention seeing her embarrassing scene at the restaurant last night, Ellie awkwardly bowed her head “Sorry, Whitney, I didn’t expect something like that.”
Whitney sat across from Ellie, wearing a modified dress with a light early autumn jacket over it. Her long hair was tied in a low ponytail, and her large hoop metal earrings were stylish. She looked very elegant and charming.
At first glance, she was stunning, but upon a closer look, she was like a fine wine, becoming more tasteful the more you enjoyed it.
Whitney lifted her eyes to look at the distance and raised her glass to clink with Ellie’s. “Look, we’ve run into them again, haven’t we?”
Following Whitney’s line of sight, Ellie turned her head and saw Alex and Haley walking toward them.

“They really do make a perfect couple,” Whitney said smoothly shifting her gaze to Ellie.
Ellie gave a bitter smile. She thought, “They looked like a perfect match in looks, education and family background. They all fit perfectly.
Alex and Haley chose a seat by the window instead of coming over to Ellic, which was a relief for her.
“Do you like him?” Whitney’s question made Ellie’s just–relaxed nerves jense up again.
“No,” Ellie denied immediately

Whitney elegantly sliced her steak. “Words can deceive, but eyes can’t. Your eyes tell me you like him very much.” Whitney’s voice was soft, but her words were impressive in Ellie’s cars.
Caught off guard, Ellie blushed with embarrassment. Fortunately Whitney stopped the conversation there, sparing her further awkwardness.
After finishing her meal, Ellie went to the front desk to pay, only to find out someone had already paid for her.
Ellie followed the front desk staff’s directions and saw Alex lovingly feeding Haley. Alex, always the loud type, usually didn’t care about details, but here he was, humbly feeding Haley and even wiping Haley’s mouth.
“Could you please help refund the money to him?” Ellie insisted on paying and then left the restaurant.
Each time Ellie’s gaze landed on Alex, she was reluctant to look away. But when she saw Haley next to him, looking so happy. Ellie felt like a thief, wanting something that didn’t belong to her
