Time flew by quickly, and soon it was the end of the year. Elle dd a two–week vacation to visit her family back home.
“Thank you, Lacey. Aaron will pick me up from the airport. I’ll cach up with you once I’m back, Ellie said before hanging up on Lacey and started plaiming her trip back next week.
When Lacey heard that Ellie was returning home, she jumped for joy. Layton, when Ellie is back from her vacation, I want to invite her over to our house.”
Layton nodded with a smile while watching Alex’s reaction closely.
Haley heard the news, and for some reason, she felt an anxious futter. She unconsciously glanced at Alex too,
Alex sat right in the middle of the private room, his posture lazy yet a bit indifferent. With his gaze lowered, it was hard to guess what he was thinking. However, his hand gripping the glass unconsciously tightened, more and more.
“Alex, I’m not feeling well. Could you take me home?” Haley noticed Alex was obviously distracted. She stood up and led him out of the private room.
After they got in the car, she wrapped her arm around his. ‘Alex, how about coming to my place tonight!”
“Another time. I’m tired,” Alex said smoothly, withdrawing his hand subtly and starting the car.
Haley bit her lower lip as she sat in the passenger seat, her hands gripping the seatbelt tightly. When she was dating Aaron, he would kiss and hold her but refused to be more intimate. Now, she was engaged to Alex, and it was even more bizarre- they hadn’t even kissed.
That night, she was so forward that even a monk would have been tempted, but Alex didn’t react at all. He just looked at her in surprise.
She couldn’t figure out if it was her fault or if something was wrong with Alex in that area–how could any normal guy not have those urges?
What really upset her was that she and Alex had been engaged for several months, but Alex had never mentioned moving In together. She had subtly suggested moving into the Warren Manor, but he rejected the idea, saying his grandpa liked peace!
She had invited Alex over to her place several times, but he always left right after dropping her off downstairs, never once coming up. Yet, he seemed perfectly fine spending a whole week living and eating at Ellie’s small apartment
Haley vowed silently, Whether Alex sees Ellie as a sister, is stuck in old habits, or has some other reason, any chance to get closer to him.

A week later, Ellie returned to the country, and Aaron picked her up from the airport. After dropping Ellie off at her previous apartment, he hesitantly said, “Ellie, Christmas is coming soon. Mom called and asked if we could visit Carlos a little earlier this year.”
Ellie paused as she packed her suitcase. Ever since she and Aaron moved out on their own, their parents always insisted they visit the Warren family for Thanksgiving and Christmas, no matter where they were. The gifts may not have been extravagant, but it was the thought behind them that truly mattered.

After hesitating for a moment, Ellie decided to go. “I’ll call Nancy later. You go ahead and do your work. I’ll go by myself.” Some social obligations just couldn’t be avoided; she had to do what needed to be done. After months of adjustment, she thought if she saw Alex again, she should be able to face him calmly.
Two mornings later, Alex went downstairs and saw his parents and grandpa all in the living room. “Dad, didn’t you go to the office?” he greeted while changing his shoes at the shoe rack, preparing to leave.
Nancy said, “Ellie’s coming over in a bit, and we’re waiting for her
Alex paused, then he took off the leather shoe he had put on and switched back to his slippers. He stood by the shoe cabinet, his eyes flickering with uncertainty. Then, he placed his car keys down and turned to go upstairs.
Nancy asked, “Aren’t you going to a concert with Haley?”
“She said something came up and canceled,” Alex mumbled as he walked towards the stairs. Before he could reach upstairs, Ellie arrived.
