Chapter 27
The wedding day had arrived.
Mona felt a mix of nerves and excitement, an unsteady blend of emotions swirling inside
her.
Her friends assured her it was normal–wedding eve jitters–something every bride went
through.
As per pack traditions, the bride and groom weren’t allowed to see each other the day before the ceremony. Which meant Kieran could only reach her through messages and phone calls.
“Mona, don’t be scared. We’ll see each other soon.”
Dressed in her flowing ivory gown, Mona sat in front of her easel, putting the finishing
touches on the last painting.
She added a final, delicate detail–the wedding band on Kieran’s hand.
This was the twenty–sixth painting in the series. It wasn’t as many as his love letters, but it was enough to adorn the entire ceremonial hall, surrounding them in their own love story.
She named it “The Beginning.”
Because from today onward, she would be his Luna. The thought made her smile.
A knock on the door pulled her from her thoughts. A housekeeper informed her that the pack’s wedding procession was already on its way. “They’ll be here in five minutes.”
Mona nodded, smoothing the intricate embroidery on her gown one last time before
preparing to step out.
That’s when she saw it. A shadow flickering in the mirror’s reflection. She barely had time to turn before something pressed over her mouth–a cloth soaked in a sharp, dizzying scent.*

‘She tried to struggle, to shift, but the drug worked fast.
Her vision blurred.
Darkness swallowed her whole.
When she woke, she was moving.
The scent of damp earth and aged leather filled her nose.
She was inside a carriage, the familiar fabric of her wedding dress still clinging to her body, but something felt off.
The long, elegant train had been cut short, and the heavy layers of the skirt had been stripped away, leaving only the core of the gown behind.
They had been in a hurry. She lifted her head–and met Alaric’s gaze. His golden eyes, warm yet unyielding, locked onto hers.
She had been asleep in his arms. The realization sent a shudder through her, and she immediately pushed against him, but his grip tightened.
“Mina,” he murmured, as if tasting the word on his tongue. “From before, you loved when I held you like this. Why do you fight now?”
A sharp, disjointed memory flashed through her mind. Arms that once brought her comfort. A voice she once trusted. A past she wasn’t sure was real. Her head throbbed.
She gritted her teeth and hissed, “What do you want from me?”
“You think Kieran won’t come for me?!”
At the mention of the other Alpha’s name, Alaric stiffened. A storm flickered in his gaze, rage barely contained beneath the surface.

“Kieran. Kieran. Why do you keep saying his name?” His voice was dangerously low. “He’s not your mate. I am.”
“No!” Mona’s snarl cut through the tense air. “I love him!”
Alaric exhaled sharply, as if forcing himself to stay in control. A muscle in his jaw ticked.
Then, slowly, he reached up, brushing his fingers through her hair–a gesture that
should’ve been gentle, but felt like chains locking into place.
“It’s okay,” he murmured. “You don’t remember now… but you will.”
A sudden jolt stopped the carriage. Mona’s pulse hammered in her throat.
Alaric stepped out first, then turned to lift her effortlessly into his arms.
As her feet touched solid ground, the scent hit her.
The crisp air. The damp earth. The towering, ancient trees. The dense forest.
No…
Her stomach lurched.
It was Shadowfang Mountains.
The cursed territory where she had once been abandoned.
She stumbled back, only to have Alaric steady her with gentle hands. “Careful, Mina.”
Her fingers dug into his chest, eyes wild. “Why you brought me here?”
Alaric didn’t deny it.
She tried to run. But before she could take a step, another presence emerged from the mist.
A hooded figure, cloaked in black, features shrouded in shadows.

His voice slithered through the air. “Alpha Alaric,” the stranger rasped. “You mustn’t waste time. The ritual hour is near.”
A ritual.
Mona’s body went rigid.
She turned to Alaric, her stomach twisting in fear.
“What are you planning to do?”
His golden eyes softened as he reached for her, as if what he was about to say
comfort her.
“Mina,” he whispered.
“We’re going to bring back your memories.”
