Chapter 4
Mina was rushed to the Silverclaw Pack’s healing sanctuary overnight, where Rachel’s
brother, a renowned pack healer named Zane, personally examined her injuries.
The diagnosis he delivered was a stark contrast to what the earlier infirmary had reported.
“Mina’s legs are fine,” Zane said confidently, his tone clipped with authority. “Give her a
couple of days to rest, and she’ll be back on her feet.”
“And as for the supposed organ failure? Utter nonsense. No wolf could suffer such damage from a little malnourishment. Even a human can go weeks without food. This? It’s nothing
but dramatics.”

His words left no doubt–he painted Mina as a liar.
Alaric’s expression grew conflicted, the shift in diagnoses clouding his judgment. He
hesitated before asking, almost uncertain, “Are you sure?”
“Of course, I’m sure,” Zane replied, his voice firm.
Rachel looped her arm through Alaric’s and pouted. “Don’t you trust my brother? He’s the best healer in our pack, Alaric.”
Zane nodded solemnly, as if to emphasize her words. “You should be more concerned about my sister. Her leg injury still hasn’t healed properly, even after a month. If I’d known she‘ face deliberate harm while traveling with you, I’d never have allowed her to go!”
The mention of Rachel’s injury sealed Alaric’s doubts. His gaze turned cold, and when he looked at Mina, disappointment and anger filled his golden eyes.
Rachel tugged gently on her brother’s sleeve. “Mina did push me,” she said softly, her voice
trembling just enough to sound convincing, “but I know she didn’t mean to. She loves you
too much, Alaric. That’s why she does these… foolish things. I don’t blame her.”
Har words, laced with subtle venom, sounded like forgiveness. But every syllable dripped

poison, shifting all guilt squarely onto Mina,
It wasn’t the first time Rachel had turned the truth on its head.
A month earlier, on the treacherous cliffs of the Shadowfang Mountains, it had been her venomous words that triggered everything,
“Your parents must’ve done something awful to deserve their fate,” she’d whispered in Mina’s ear, her tone as sharp as a claw. “They say their bodies were torn apart by beasts. Can you imagine how horrible it must’ve been? I wonder what sins they committed to die
like that.”
Before Mina could defend herself, Rachel stumbled backward, tumbling down the rocky slope. Blood poured from a deep gash on her right leg, the sight horrifying enough to freeze everyone in their tracks.
Alaric’s reaction was immediate. He spun toward Mina, his face a mask of fury, and slapped
her so hard her ears rang.
“You’re insane!” he roared. “If anything happens to Rachel, you’ll stay here for the rest of your life!”
No amount of pleading could change his mind. Mina sobbed, her voice breaking as she begged him not to leave her behind.
Her parents had died in a rogue attack during a pack expedition. Since then, she had avoided the wilderness, feared the lurking dangers of forests, and dreaded the shadows of
rogues.
The only reason she’d braved the Shadowfang Mountains was to stay by Alaric’s side.
But now, he was abandoning her.
Mina’s entire body trembled, her nails digging into her palms as she begged. “Please, Alaric, don’t leave me here! I swear. I’ll stay far away from you, I’ll leave if that’s what you
want–just don’t do this to me!”
Her desperate words seemed to fuel his anger. His jaw tightened, his golden eyes blazing.

“Fine, Mina,” he growled. “Run far away if you want. You’re nothing but trouble!”

With that, the pack left her behind. They gave her a small pack of supplies–nothing more.
Mina’s thoughts snapped back to the present. Her lips throbbed with pain, and she realized she’d bitten them hard enough to draw blood. The metallic tang stung as it spread across
her tongue.
Alaric’s grip tightened on her wrist, pulling her from her daze.
“Apologize to Rachel!” he ordered, his Alpha tone heavy with command.
