Chapter 8
The room was in complete disarray–shattered glass, overturned furniture, and the lingering echoes of fury still thick in the air.
Alaric shielded Rachel behind him. His golden eyes burned with cold rage.
“She’s nothing,” he spat, his voice like a blade. “Just stay by my side, and no one–not her, not anyone–will take you away from me.”
His gaze snapped toward Mina, who remained motionless on the hospital bed. His
expression was not that of a former mate, nor even that of an Alpha toward one of his own.
It was pure hostility.
“You just love stirring up trouble, don’t you?” His voice dripped with venom.
“Fine.” He reached for the ring on his left hand–the one that had bound them since he first
declared her as his Luna.
Before anyone could react, he tore it off and hurled it out the open window. “Then let’s
break it off.”
The Matriarch let out a sharp breath, swaying on her feet. Then, suddenly, she collapsed. The room erupted into chaos.
Mina moved first–instinct taking over as she tried to get out of bed. But the moment she
shifted her weight, her legs buckled beneath her.
She hit the floor hard.
The IV line snapped from her arm, sending a sharp sting through her veins. Medication
spilled across the floor, mingling with the blood seeping through her bandages.
Pain lanced through her body, but she barely registered it. She dragged herself forward, her
hands trembling as she reached for the Matriarch’s limp figure.

“Grandmother…” Each movement was agonizing, but she kept crawling, inching closer.
Just before she could grasp the elder’s hand, a boot stepped firmly between them, blocking her path.
Alaric.
His presence loomed over her, his stance unwavering.
“What do you think you’re doing?” he asked, his voice cold, unreadable.
just…” Mina swallowed hard, her voice hoarse. “I just want to see if she’s alright.”
She reached for him instead, her fingers barely grazing the hem of his pants. It was instinct, a desperate attempt to appeal to the part of him that once cared. The part of him that used
to hold her when she was afraid.
But the response she received was nothing but disgust. With a sharp kick, Alaric knocked her hand away.
“Don’t touch me.” His voice was sharp as a whip. “This is your fault. You pushed her to
this.”
Mina’s breath hitched.
“You wanted to use her, didn’t you?” His glare was piercing, accusing. “To manipulate her
into defending you, to turn her against me. You don’t care about her–if you did, you
wouldn’t have made her collapse like this.”
The words were like a slap to the face.
“Mina,” he said, his voice steady and cutting. “How did you become so… vile?”
Then, without another glance, he turned away, lifting Rachel into his arms as if she were
the one who had been wronged. As he walked out, Rachel tilted her head just enough to
meet Mina’s gaze.
Her lips moved, though no sound came out.

“You deserve this.”
The Matriarch remained unconscious for two days.
By the time Alaric’s parents arrived, the tension in the estate was at a breaking point. His
father wasted no time. The moment he stepped into the room, the crack of his palm against
Alaric’s face echoed through the air.
Alaric barely flinched.
“This is how you take care of your grandmother?” his father growled. “If the media got
wind of this, do you know what it would do to our pack’s reputation?”
His mother quickly intervened, stepping between them with a soothing touch to his father’s
arm.
“Enough,” she urged gently before turning to Alaric, her voice dropping to a more placating
tone. “What happened? Why would she suddenly collapse?”
Before Alaric could answer, Rachel stepped forward. “It was Mina,” she said softly.
She lowered her head, feigning hesitation before continuing.
“She made a mistake a while ago. Alaric only meant to discipline her, but she must have
gone to the Matriarch in secret and twisted the story. I don’t know what she said, but it
must have been terrible to upset her this much…”
Her explanation was perfectly crafted–carefully omitting details while shifting all blan
onto Mina.
Alaric’s mother frowned in displeasure.
“Mina is truly insufferable. Back when her parents were alive, they indeed made
contributions to our pack. but now? What’s left of the Moonveil Pack? Haven’t her uncles
and elders already carved up every last piece? If it weren’t for our Silverclaw Pack
supporting her, she would have been nothing but a lone rogue by now. And yet, she still

Alaric, still simmering in his own anger, but couldn’t stop himself from interjecting.“Mom, don’t judge her–Alpha Nathaniel helped us plenty in the past. If it weren’t for the Moonveil Pack’s support back then, our pack might have-”
“Enough!” Alaric’s father cut him off abruptly, his tone firm and unreadable. His sharp gaze flickered toward Rachel for the briefest moment–calculated, assessing–before settling back
on his son.
“I heard you brought up breaking the bond with Mina?”
