Chapter 9
Alaric didn’t respond immediately, but his mother wasted no time voicing her opinion.
“Calling off the bond would be for the best,” she muttered.
“What does she have besides that pretty face? She’s been spoiled by the Matriarch’s affection for far too long–reckless, entitled, completely lacking self–awareness. If she became Luna, who knows what kind of chaos she’d bring?”
Alaric’s first instinct was to object.
Despite everything–the discarded ring, the harsh words, the bitter resentment twisting inside him–he had never truly intended to sever the bond.
Yet just as he opened his mouth, Rachel tightened her grip on his hand, leaning in to whisper, “They’re angry right now. Don’t push them further.”
Then, as if to subtly redirect the conversation, she turned to his mother with a gentle smile.
“There’s no need to rush such a decision,” she suggested sweetly. “But the Matriarch’s
health is fragile. She can’t handle any more stress.”
“So why not send Mina away? Somewhere far enough that she won’t cause more trouble.
And when the Matriarch recovers… we can revisit the discussion then.”
Alaric’s mother nodded approvingly. “Yes. That’s a reasonable solution.”
“Then it’s settled.” His father’s tone left no room for argument.
Only when they had left did Alaric finally exhale, running a hand through his hair before turning to Rachel. He squeezed her hand in gratitude.
“Thank you,” he said, his voice quieter now.
If his father had decided to dissolve the bond right then and there, there would have been nothing Alaric could do to stop it.

‘Rachel smiled understandingly, her fingers brushing lightly against his palm. “There’s
nothing to thank me for.”
She hesitated just long enough for it to seem natural before adding, “She doesn’t deserve your kindness, Alaric.”
Alaric shook his head with a sigh. “Mina’s just… childish. I can’t truly hold it against her.”
Once she had reassured Alaric, Rachel made her way to the infirmary.
There, she found her brother–Zane, the Silverclaw Pack’s esteemed healer–seated on the examination table, wincing as he applied medicine to his bruised ribs.
His face twisted in pain before he shot her a glare. “You had to make such a scene, didn’t you?” he grumbled. “Why did you have to drag that old hag into this?”
Rachel sighed, looking at him with something close to pity. “Foolish! You really think Mina’s injuries could have been hidden forever?”
She folded her arms, voice lowering. “If she had died under your care, do you think Alaric would have protected you? Would the Alpha Council have ignored it?”
Zane paled slightly, but Rachel didn’t let him dwell on his fear.
“That’s why I set this up,” she continued smoothly. “Sending Mina away ensures she’s out of our way, and once she’s far enough… well, accidents happen.”
Zane frowned, shifting uncomfortably. “You’re saying-”
Rachel smiled. “When she’s gone, Alaric’s Luna position will finally be open. And no one
will stand in our way.”
Mina’s departure was set for two days later.

For those two days, she was confined to a private room under strict watch. Two enforcers from the pack stood guard outside her door, their towering wolf forms alert, ears twitching at the slightest sound, as if they feared she would shift and attempt to escape.
It would have been laughable–except for the fact that she couldn’t even stand on her own.
Alaric had his suspicions, but Zane quickly dismissed them.
“Her legs are fine,” he assured him. “She’s just being stubborn.”

Alaric’s expression darkened. “So even after a month in the Shadowfang Mountains, she
hasn’t learned her lesson?”
He exhaled, rubbing his temple.
Mina had always been like this–reckless, emotional, refusing to yield even when it cost her.
And yet, despite his frustration, something inside him twisted at the thought that she was
still trying to manipulate him.
Perhaps, in a strange way, it pleased him. That she still cared enough to fight.
But when Alaric visited her for the last time, expecting some kind of resistance, he found
nothing of the sort. Mina sat upright in bed, her expression eerily calm. “How is the
Matriarch?”
Alaric’s temper snapped instantly.
““How dare you mention her?” His voice was sharp, his Alpha aura pressing down on the room. “If you hadn’t complain to her, if you hadn’t forced her to come all this way, she never would have collapsed in the first place!”
“Not me,” Mina murmured.

Her voice had been quiet, but Alaric had heard her. And yet, something in him refused to believe it.
So he scowled. “You’re still lying,” he muttered. “Even now.”
Mina didn’t answer. She simply closed her eyes.
Because two days later, she would leave forever.
