Chapter 14

I looked at Evie’s sleeping figure, the way her thick eyebrows framed her face and added volume to her small deep–set eyes, her long eyelashes that lightly brushed her cheeks, the curve of her high cheekbones and her rosy almond–shaped lips.
It was like seeing her for the first time. And I wasn’t seeing her as Evie, my late wife, but as Mallory my mate and a whole new person.
I wanted to learn about her, know her, inside and out.
I clenched my palms angrily catching sight of a small nick on her cheeks.
Damn that Alpha Tommen. He was lucky I didn’t rip him apart for laying a finger on her.
Silver screamed to be let out for a short while to tear him to shreds for laying a hand on his mate.
“Alpha Kelvin’s voice broke into my thoughts, and I dragged my gaze unwillingly from Mallory’s face.
“What?” I barked angry at the interruption and him for not protecting Mallory.
“Alpha Tommen is ready to see you”
I bit my jaw hard, trying to control the anger that surged through me at the mention of his name..
“I’m sorry I was there to protect her last night.” Kelvin bowed.

pour my anger at him but held back the retort that was on the top of my tongue.
rout
It wasn’t his fault but mine for not watching her.
She might be another person but she is in the body of my wife and is my fated mate
“Let go.” I tucked the end of the bed cover around her softly, my gaze softening as she mumbled some gibberish in her sleep.
“So cute,” Silver cooed in my head, and I couldn’t stop the upward curve of my lips.
I caught Kelvin staring at me with a bemused expression on his face and hastily masked my features.
I coughed lightly to hide my embarrassment and left the room with Kelvin in tow.
We reached the Alpha office and were ushered in by his beta who offered a low bow apologizing for the incident of the previous night.
“Good day, Alpha Ivan,” Shireen, Alpha Tommen’s sister, greeted
She softened her voice to sound more feminine but it sounded like a squeaky cat to me.
I nodded at her and fixed my gaze at her brother who measured me with a curious gaze.
“Good day, Alpha Ivan, beta Kelvin.”
Kelvin bowed in response, and I nodded my head, keeping my breathing steady to calm Silver, who banged against my head, trying to leap at Tommen.
“Alpha Tommen,” I answered in response to his greeting

“How is your Luna! Once again, I apologize for my mistake. Rogues and poachers have been spotted frequently in our
fields.”
“Really?” I began, twirling my ring around my finger as my gaze held his. Are you sure it’s not an excuse to attack my Luna just as your pack members have been doing to mine?”
He shifted uncomfortably in his seat, his eyes straining to his sister and beta.
“No, it’s not. It was honestly a mistake.
The friction between our packs needs to be addressed pronto, e answered
“That is why we came here. Your pack members invaded and attacked the guards stationed at the boundary, leaving two injured 1 coldly stated, feeling irritated by his presence.
“The members who attacked your pack acted purely on their own and with no instruction from myself or my beta.”
“How about your sister?” I growled, fixing my eyes on Shireen, who was squirming the whole time.
That was no surprise, the whole air was thick with alpha aura, which can be overwhelming for weaker wolves.
“M–me? I didn’t order anyone to attack the Moonshadow pack. Brother, I’m telling the truth. She stammered, her face. drained of colour.
Silver was not taking it easy with the aura. It was almost suffocating.
My sister isn’t capable of giving such a directive. I assure you we were all unaware of such happenings.” Tommen answered. gesturing his beta to lead Shireen away before she passed out.
I fixed my stare on a map of our kingdom hung behind Tommen, my mind churning with thoughts.
Pack members seldom act our on their own. There was always a driving force or commander behind them.
Tommen gestured at his beta to come forward and collect some papers from him.
“Based on the investigation we carried out last night, the members who attacked your pack live close to the boundary and are mostly hunters and farmers.
They complained of their crops lacking space to expand and also a limited area to farm.”
“This fool with his smug smile and his perfectly slicked back blonde hair. Dumb blonde.” Silver snarled.
I ignored silver’s insults at Tommen and stood menacingly, putting my hands on the smoothly carved oak table and leaned forward, my head mere inches from his.
“You’re telling me that your pack members attacked mine because they lacked space?” I thundered, releasing a wave of aura that sent even Kelvin shivering.
Shireen was lucky to have left. She’d have passed out.
Alpha Tommen stared at me square in the eyes, not backing down.
“I greatly apologize for the actions of my pack members and I propose a solution which will stop it,”
I backed down and took my seat again, crossing my legs against the other.
“Let’s hear it.”
Ravenwood pack has a vast land which is not being used currently; I propose allowing us to extend our land, even if for a

few meters, to allow the edge dwellers extra space.”
A chuckle burst through my lips before I could stop it and I clapped my hands dramatically at his suggestion.
“I refuse. If your edge dwellers need more land maybe they shouldn’t stay at the edge.
That is the most ridiculous suggestion I have ever heard.”
Alpha Tommen scratched the back of his ear, his eyes bowed, probably hearing the stupidity in his words.
“That’s the best decision that will favour us both or not. I can’t guarantee there won’t be another attack on your pack,” he added in a voice tinged with pride.
He probably thinks he has the upper hand.
“Here’s what will happen, Alpha Tommen. The members of your pack that we caught will remain in my custody, in prison. need 1 add.
And under no circumstance are we going to extend our land to give your edge dwellers more space and if any other dares cross my boundaries and attack my members again, consider then flayed alive and fed to dogs.
The same goes for the rest of the members in prison.”
I stood up and exited the office with Kelvin leaving him dumbfounded at my words.
If he was smart, he’d know they were not bluffs. I might be peaceful but not weak.
I walked to Mallory’s room to check on her, hoping she was awake.
“Ready the car Kelvin, we’re leaving.”
