“I won’t accept her as my mate, I want to respect my late wife bla bla, so why a
Silver sneered mockingly, feeling the frown on my face.
are you pissed she showed some skin mister?”
I ignored his jabs and walked faster, trying to calm the heat that spread throughout my body.
It took all my willpower not to pluck Kelvin’s eye off for catching a glimpse of her.
This wasn’t the first time I saw Evie’s body but there was something different, provocative about her appearance.
The torn jacket that she tied tightly gripped her bosom, highlighting its contours and perkiness and the dainty glow of her skin as the moonlight hit it
Her slim waist beckoned for my hands to be wrapped around it, and her well curved hips stood out from the shorts covering
Damn! The mate bond was driving me crazy.
“Are you ready to admit that you’re her mate?” Silver asked again, determined not to be shut off.
I groaned and pinched the space between my brows wishing I could shove a piece of rag into his mouth.
“Don’t try to shut me out! Her wolf is back so she’ll recognize the mate bond soon.”
“That would be for the best,” I replied. “I’d prefer she recognizes we are mates without me telling her.”
Mallory and Kelvin arrived at the clinic shortly. She was smiling at something he said to her, and the sight made my blood boil.
He dropped the girl on a stretcher and wheeled her in taking his time to make sure she was properly placed and comfortable.
“Get the doctor!” I barked, giving him a deadly glare.
Mallory busied herself with fetching hand gloves and bandages and began to clean up the deep wounds on the girl’s legs.
The sight of the wounds brought a slight calmness to my heart. At least the traps were doing their work of keeping the intruders out.
I watched her work, moving with expert precision as she carefully disinfected the wounds and areas and connected a drip to her hand.
“You’re good at this,” I commented, keeping my eye on her.
“Yes. I volunteered in a clinic during my school years. I always had a passion for caring for the sick.” She
e answered.
My throat felt dry as my eyes strained to her slender neck which was exposed as she had her hair tied up.
I swallowed hard and averted my gaze
1 don’t think she’s from around here. There are scars on her body.
Probably from maltreatment.” She said solemnly, her eyes fixed on me.

“We’d still have to interrogate her when she wakes up.”
“Good day, Alpha Ivan, Luma Evie.” The doctor bowed as she entered the room, Kelvin in tow,

She examined the girl and administered an injection to her lower calves, which made her squirm in pain, and her eyes flew
open.
I narrowed my eyes suspiciously at her act. My gut said she was awake all along.
“How are you feeling The doctor asked her. The girl attempted in speak but only a cough carne out.
Mallory stretched a glass of water towards the girl which she hurriedly drank.
“T–thank you” She croaked in a weak voice.
“Who are you?” I ignored the scathing look Mallory shot me at my question. I didn’t have time for sympathy and my gut was telling me something wasn’t right.
“My name is Maya and I’m from Moonpeak pack.”
Moonpeak! I knew something wasn’t right and Felix was at the root of it.
My eyes turned stormy and I gripped her neck tightly.
“What are you doing in my pack?”
“Stop it, Ivan, she’s injured.” Mallory gripped my hand, trying to pry my fingers off Maya’s neck.
I let go feeling Mallory’s angry stare on me.
“Don’t make me repeat myself. I barked out.
Tears were streaming down her face and my fingers left an imprint on her neck.
“I ran away from the pack because I was always abused. I worked in the palace, and unfortunately, Alpha Felix took a liking to me, which put me in the bad books of Luna Willow”
I glanced at Mallory from the corner of my eyes and noticed her countenance had changed.
A frown broke out between her brows and her eyes carried hints of anger and pity at Maya’s words.
“Moonpeak is under strict surveillance at all times, so how were you able to escape?” I asked, not believing a word that she said
“Uhm my brother works with the guards. He helped me escape
“Why did you decide to come to my pack of all the packs in this kingdom
– I wasn’t aware of the direction I was running to. I just wanted to be far from Moonpeak.
I kept running and barely stopped for breaks till last night.
I stumbled into this forest with the hope of picking fruits and continuing my escape but I was caught by traps.”
She finished, snot dripping from her nose, painting a pitiful picture.
A mocking smile crossed my lips. Felix planned this well.
“Keep two guards stationed at her door and windows at all times, and she is not to leave this room without my permission,” I

instructed Kelvin and walked out of the room frustrated, Mallory following closely behind.
“You shouldn’t have done that She said, her voice upset.
I stopped in my tracks and turned to face her, ignoring the kick my heart rate as my eyes roved over her features.
“Done what? I have the safety of my pack to think of, and nobody, not even a young kid, is above harming my pack, especially when it’s a werewolf from Moompeak pack.”
“I understand that, but she’s gravely injured, and you still added in the injuries. She doesn’t look like she’s lying by the way.”
I snorted, annoyed at her words
“Oh yeah? No wonder Felix and Willow were able to deceive you for years. You really are naive.
The sooner you learn not to take anything at face value, the better chances you have at surviving”
Silver howled angrily at me as Mallory’s face mirrored the hurt she felt at my words and her lips spread in a tight smile.
“Thank you for your advice, Alpha.” She answered in a disgruntled voice and bowed mockingly before walking back to the
clinic.
Shit! I groaned internally realizing the gravity of my words
“Good job idiot, you’ve succeeded in bringing up my mate’s trauma. Silver whined prompting me to shut him off immediately.
