Chapter 24
**Mallory**
“Well? What happened?” I asked, my eyes searching hers.
“It’s strange. The wound is healed. If not for the stitches left on it, I would not have known the exact spot.”
I shook my head, baffled at the turn of events. Kira was too weak, making her heal slowly but this was strange.
It was too strange for her to have recovered that quickly.
“Kira, I don’t understand,” I called out to her.
“Me neither Mallory. I think it has something to do with the necklace you put on.” She answered.
“My mom’s necklace?”

“Yes. It happened immediately when you put it on and also the thing that happened with your eyes coupled with the first incident,”
I remained silent mulling over her words. Was there some magical power contained in the necklace?
How come I never heard anything about it from my father before he died?
“I think you should get some rest Luna,” the doctor began. “Although your wound is healed, you’re still exhausted and would end up in a hospital bed if care isn’t taken.”
I nodded and left the office, my mind filled with questions. I stopped abruptly on the way, staring at my palm as if the answer would magically appear on it.
“I’m going to take it as a miracle and assume Kira is getting stronger somehow. There’s no way there’s some hidden power in the necklace and I wasn’t informed.”
I mused to myself and walked towards the shed containing weapons to train.
I reached the shed and threw open the doors, a shudder passing through me as I recalled how Ivan was injured.
I picked a long spear alongside my trusty dagger and walked towards the training area.
“Luna!”
The soldiers training in the area bowed as I drew closer.
I waved to them and walked up to Kelvin, who was instructing a group of young werewolves on how to handle a gun.
“I want to train, Kelvin,” I announced as I reached them.
“Train?” His mouth was thrown open and his eyes instinctively moved to my thigh, confusion clouding his face at the absence of my bandage.
“You should be resting, Luna Evie and also what happened to your bandage?
Your wound is going to bleed out and get infected.”
“I’m fine Kelvin. My wound healed up,” I answered and threw my hair up into a ponytail.
“But-

Chapter 24
“No buts Kelvin. I need to learn how to defend myself and the pack if we are ever attacked again.
I’m fine and would rather be here than cooped up in a bed.
Besides, it will help take my mind off things.” I replied.
He gave a brief nod and dispersed the young wolves gathered around him.
He set up a target some distance away and handed me a pair of earmuffs.
“Empty the whole chamber into the target. Make sure you target the bullseye.” He instructed.
I stuck the ear protection in and took my position aiming squarely at the target before me.
I focused my sight on the bullseye, feeling a rush of anger at the events of the past few days.
Bang!
My shot rang out and I saw my bullet hit the bullseye.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Three shots rang out in succession all meeting the target.
Suddenly, I stumbled back, feeling lightheaded and black dots dancing in my vision.
Being unable to sleep for the last three days coupled with my lack of appetite, the effects were already telling.

“That’s the end of practice, Luna; you need to get back to the clinic,” Kelvin hurried to hold me steady and lead me back to the clinic.
I requested for a bed to be brought into Ivan’s room and I drifted into a peaceful slumber, Ivan appearing multiple times in my sleep.
The moon was high up in the sky when my eyes fluttered open.
I stared at the ceiling, unaware of my surroundings for some seconds before I turned to see the still figure of Ivan.
Seeing how still his chest was, I hurried out of bed and placed my ear against his chest, my fears calming down as I heard the strong beating of his heart.
“You need to fight this Ivan. You’re a Lycan for crying out loud!
Don’t be beaten by a puny poison that wasn’t even discovered until a few days ago!” I cried desperately, staring at him hard as if my stare would make his eyes open up.
My hand went to the deep gash that ran vertically across his chest. The bandage used to wrap it was due for a change as there was blood dotting it.
I walked up to the doctor’s office, saw it empty and picked up the supplies I needed.
I hurried back to the ward, silently not to disturb any other patient and got to work.
I didn’t notice tears running down my face until they dropped rapidly on his smooth chest, mixing with the disinfectant and running into the wound.
Finishing up with my task, I disposed of the used materials and covered Ivan well before leaving for the Alpha Den.
Kelvin walked into the clinic as I headed out and I felt relieved klowing he would spend the night there.

Chapter 24
“Welcome back Luna Evie,” Maya greeted, rising from the floor where she had been sitting.
“Why are you still here, Maya? It’s late. You should be in your quarters.”
“You haven’t had anything to eat since the soup earlier so I made something for you.
I’ll go to bed once you’re done with your meal.”

I nodded mechanically and scooped a spoonful of the warm porridge into my mouth, allowing the spicy taste of chili and cinnamon to soothe my heart.
“Thank you, Maya; you may leave now,” I spoke, pushing the cart containing the plates towards her.
I lay down on the bed, my mind racing with questions.
“What if Felix had a hand in this? The edge dwellers said he knew nothing about the poison but it was put in by someone. But who?” I mused softly.
The silent night gave no answers to my question, and before long, I surrendered my tired body to the clutches of sleep.
“Luna! Luna!”
A loud voice called out, accompanied by frantic knocks on my door.

“I’m coming!” I called out, my eyes groggy with sleep and my
voice hoarse.
I stumbled out of bed and found my way blindly to the door, opened it and met with Kevin’s excited face.
“He’s awake. Alpha Ivan is awake!”
