Chapter 28
**Mallory**
I stared back at my reflection in the mirror, my eyes glued to the silver streak in my hair.
The silver hair bothered me so much since the day Ivan pointed it out to me and I wondered if it had anything to do with the strange healing of my wound.
“We should wash it out,” Maya chimed behind me. She cleared out the pile of clothes brought in for me from the pack dress shop and drew open the window blinds.
“It’s useless,” I replied. After getting back from the clinic, I almost emptied a full bottle of shampoo, trying to get it out, but it remained stubborn..
“Does this have anything to do with the owner of the body?” I mused to myself.
“The youngsters you’re coaching today are waiting outside,” Maya informed me before taking her leave.
I nodded and hurried through my morning routine; dabbing a bit of powder and blush to my face, swiped my red lipstick on and smacked my lips, satisfied at my appearance in the mirror.
I braided my hair hurriedly, tucking the silver streak into the nest of my long brown hair.
I walked past Ivan’s office contemplating saying hi to him before I went about my duties for the day.
Since our kiss moment was interrupted by Kelvin, coupled with the revelation given by the edge dwellers, things have been cool between us.
He always gave a curt nod when he saw me, his eyes avoiding mine and stayed cooped up in his office with Kelvin and the head soldier, dividing plans and discussing pack matters.
I wasn’t willing to admit it but a small part of me missed him, and an even smaller part wished we weren’t interrupted that day.
I decided to go about my duties when the door flew open and he stepped o
His hair was ruffled, looking like he ran his hands through it multiple times, and three buttons of his shirt were undone, giving him a rusty look.
“Hey,” I breathed out, feeling a hitch in my chest.
On your way out?” He replied, folding his arms across his chest,
I felt my mouth go moist as I looked at how his muscles pumped up when he crossed his arms.
He coughed slightly a smirk hanging on his lips as he caught my line of sight.
I looked away, embarrassment clouding my cheeks at being caught.
Yeah, the doctor requested I help train some young werewolves who volunteered at the clinic,” I replied.
“Great. Have a nice day,” he waved at me and turned to walk off
“Wait” I blurted. Any progress on the investigation?”
“None for now, Mal, but once there is. I’ll let you know.” He replied without turning around and walked a

I arrived at the clinic, the image of his muscles still ingrained in my mind.
I nodded mindlessly to the greetings of the clinic members.
We went around the wards, administering medications and food to the patients alongside the doctor.
It was well into the evening before I got any breathing space and allowed thoughts of Ivan to invade my mind.

The loud beeping of the alarm bell drew me out of whatever thoughts I was about sinking into, and I hurried out of my office alongside the doctor with the necessary first–aid equipment in hand.
“What happened?” I demanded as a young wolf, about 7 years old, was wheeled into the hospital; he was trembling on the bed, shaking as spasms hit him at intervals.
“He convulsed, started foaming around the mouth and spasming…he has The Shakes.,” the older wolf that carried him in announced.
I positioned the bed and held down his legs to control the spasms that ran through him, the doctor checking his airway breathing and circulation.
“Lift his leg,” she instructed, which I hurriedly did, keeping it steady with a bandage fixed to the hospital bed.
A moment later, the spasms went down and the boy became still, his breathing coming out ragged.
“Prepare the drip,” she yelled out, trying to steady the boy’s breathing.
I prepared a drip of anti–seizure and muscle relaxants and attached it to his arm, breathing a sigh of relief as his breathing became stable.
The shakes were a terrifying sickness dreaded by werewolves. It was incurable and could only be managed, but as one got older, it became harder to manage, and episodes like this could happen frequently.
I cast a glance at the young wolf, his breathing steady and slow. My heart churned painfully for him having to go through something this deadly at such a young age.
“Where are his parents?” I questioned the older wolf who brought him in.
“They passed away three moons ago to this same illness,” the man
I shook my head sadly at his words. The sickness was hereditary
“Who is he staying with now?”
“He stays with the new werewolves admitted into the pack. Doesn’t have a permanent home,” The man
replied.
I dismissed him, a tired sigh escaping my lips. I took a seat next to him, planning to spend the night in the hospital.
“Luna, aren’t you leaving? He is stable for now.” The doctor announced, stepping into the room.

“I think I’ll stay for a while. I’ll have Maya bring up a meal for me. You should go home to your family.” I replied to her with a warm sinile.
She gave a slight bow and left the office.
The door opened shortly, and 1 whipped my head up, thinking she had come back.
“You don’t need to worry doctor-
“It’s me.” Ivan stepped in still wearing his work clothes

“Hey! You didn’t have to come,” I said as he sat opposite me on the edge of the boy’s bed.
“You didn’t show up for dinner. What’s wrong with him?”

I scoffed at his words and rolled my eyes. Since the kiss, he had been having dinner alone and had the galls to comment about me not showing up for dinner.
“He has the shakes,” I replied coldly.
He didn’t have a chance to reply as the heart rate monitor began beeping rapidly and the boy shook on the bed violently.
I rushed out of my seat, and climbed the bed, my legs straddling the kid and began to push heavily against his chest. His mouth began to foam up and Ivan held his legs down.
Still pressing his chest down, my hands began to warm up and I felt a warm sensation leaving my body.
The boy stopped foaming up, his body getting still while his heart rate gradually returned to normal.
I climbed down from the bed, my heart roaring in my ears.
“What?” I mumbled, panting lightly as I struggled to catch my breath.
I couldn’t explain why the sensation that left me had me feeling lightheaded.
Ivan was staring at me like he just saw a ghost.
“Your hair-
I scruntched my eyebrows at his words and walked to the mirror hung by the bathroom area.
I gasped and stumbled back as I saw my sight in the mirror.
A quarter of my hair had turned silver.
