“You spent a good amount of time there. Lots of catching up to do I see an annoying voice filtered into my ear as I exited Mallory (Evie’s) room.
Kelvin, iny beta jogged up to me, a sly grin on his face which 1 was tempted to wipe off.
“How’s she?”
“She’s better. Looks like the drugs finally kicked in.” I walked to my office, deep in thoughts. What exactly is going on!
“Keep a close eye on her.” I barked out to the guard stationed in front of her door.
Kelvin nodded and opened the office, ushering me in.
I walked straight up to the bar and poured a scotch for myself. With the incidents of this morning. I needed more than a shot.
I noticed my wolf’s discomfort as the hot drink went down my throat. Sometimes I wondered if I had the wrong wolf. Anything different from the norm seemed to spook him. Or maybe it was the other thing.
“What’s the status?” I asked Kelvin, who had busied himself with sorting the pile of files that littered my desk,
-We have been able to contact the contractors for the remodeling project. They are scheduled to start in a fortnight.
We also have some new members. We’ve provided residence for them at the external quarters pending when they pass the
evaluation.”
I listened, nodding my head as he spoke. “How are they? Any potential?“–
“None that I have seen. Most are teenagers and haven’t even gotten their wolves. The ones who do have their wolves are unable to transform.”
Speaking of wolves, my mind wandered back to Mallory. Silver recognized her as my mate.
o mate.
Mate. That word sounded so unfamiliar. I had never had a mate. Evie was a match made for me but not my
Was there a mistake-
“Alpha?”
“My mind wandered for a sec. You were saying?” I ignored Kelvin’s eyeroll and tried to concentrate on the papers he was reading from
“I was saying it’s possible we train them and make their wolf stranger. It won’t be a simple task but it’s going to help us.”
That will benefit us greatly. Inform the others and get started soon.”
My mind went back to Mallory. I don’t think she has realized we are mates yet. I had no plans of revealing it to her myself.
Not yet. Evie might have been sickly but I loved her and even having a mate, a few minutes after she passed on makes me feel guilty as hell.
I noticed Kelvin staring at me with a confused expression.
“What?” I barked out, feeling irritated at the stare

“You look bothered. A penny for your thoughts?” he asked, a gentle smile on his face.
Kelvin had always been more than a beta. A good friend. Caring and downright nosy.
My eyes darkened as I looked up at him with pursed lips.
“You’re yet to find a mate. Lremarked, a glint in my eye.
E
Kelvin chuckled. “I’m flattered you worry about my relationship life. But it’s all good. When the time is right, she’ll be revealed to me.”
I solled my eyes. “Anything else?”
“Our scouts have been noticing some strange behaviour from our neighbours, the Moonshade pack.
They’re getting bolder, overstepping their boundaries.”
My ears perked up at the information, “Til talk to their alpha, see what’s going on.”
“Fantastic, we can’t have them thinking they can walk over us and-”
Knock knock
A young gamma entered the office, carrying a small black envelope.
“Your highness, a messenger brought this for you.”
“Drop it and leave.” Kelvin answered.
He picked it up, eyeing it exterior and the symbol on it.
“It bears the crest of King Matteo,”
I sat up at his words. Matteo was the monarch of the kingdom of Elveria. A letter from him meant serious business.
“Hand it over.”
I collected and tore the envelope hastily, reading the letter from top to bottom. I sighed heavily when I was done and dropped it on my desk.
“Well what does it say?” Kelvin asked eagerly.
“We have been invited for the alpha convention. It’s happening tomorrow.”
“What? We’ve never been invited before!”
“I’m as shocked as you.” I stood up and walked to the windows, my expression unreadable.
I wonder what the king hopes to achieve by inviting me. I have been treated like an outcast in the kingdom for as long as I
remember.
“Get started on the preparation Kelvin.” I waved him out and walked straight to Mallory’s quarters.
I entered the dunly lit room after she ushered me in, her scents filing my senses and drawing me in. She had changed into at flowy blur gown, which complimented her pale skin.
Well rested, her eyes seemed to sparkle more and a faint glow rested on her cheeks. I swallowed, feeling silver’s excited yelp. and aware of the effect she was beginning to have on me.

Cursed mate bond.
“Hi” She waved, taking a seat opposite me.

“Looks like an opportunity just opened up. We’ve been invited for the alpha convention. Get ready we are leaving tonight.”
“Alpha convention? I thought it was strictly for alphas.”
“Not anymore apparently. The invitation requested for the alpha and Luna.”
She nodded slowly, her expression unreadable,
“There’s a chance we’d meet Felix and Willow?” She asked, her green eyes holding mine.
“Definitely, Moonpeak pack is the second highest pack. They must be there. Him at least.”
I searched her face, looking for signs of hesitation, of fear or the weak lady who I met with this morning. There was none, only an angry determined eyes met mine.
The maids will bring some dresses in. Be ready by 8. It’s a long ride to the kingdom of Elveria.”
She nodded, her tough act still up and the determined look getting stronger.
I spied some lose hair drifting around her face and stood up to leave immediately, resisting the urge to tuck them behind
her ears.
“Don’t take off the amulet.” I reminded her and exited the room.
