Chapter 6
**Mallory**
I woke up to the sound of trumpets announcing our arrival as our car sped along the tarred road leading to the king’s estate. Lavender flowers decorated the sidewalk and I remembered my dad used to grow them at Aurora Estate.
I always wondered why, given that no one lived there but never got the chance to ask.
A sad look crossed my face but I shrugged it off immediately.

“Are you okay?”
I turned and looked at Ivan who was staring at me with a worried look.
“Yeah. I’m just a bit on edge.” I replied, smoothing out my dress for the umpteenth time.
“Don’t be. I’m here for you. He held my hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze.
He continued. “Remember, we are a loving couple. We have to act that way.”
I nodded and stared at him, looking at his deep orbs wondering if it was the words or his eyes that made my heart skip a beat
“Alpha Ivan of Ravenwood Pack and his Luna, Evie.”
The valet announced as the car came to a halt, startling me.
I got out of the car, wiping my sweaty palms on my dress. I looked at my surroundings taking note of the tall and regal conference hall and ivy plants decorating the walls
I looked at Ivan extending his arm to me, a calm look on his face.
“Shall we?”
I nodded and took his extended arm, taking steady steps into the grand hall. My eyes scanned the room, taking note of different Alphas, each one looking overbearing and important, and Luna’s clutching their arms.
The majority were dressed in sparkly, expensive outfits, making me feel self–conscious in my pale pastel green gown.
As if sensing my insecurity, Ivan put his hand around my shoulders, drawing me close and patting me gently. I looked up in surprise, but he was preoccupied with greeting an alpha who walked up to us.
“Alpha Marcus.” His deep baritone rang out,
“Alpha Ivan. I see your Luna is doing much better.” The alpha stretched a hand to me which I shook gently
“Good day, Alpha Marcus. I curtsied and he nodded at me before facing Ivan. I remember seeing him during celebrations at Moonpeak. His Luna died two years ago and he stubbornly refused to remarry, preferring to raise their pups. alone.
I thought back to Ivan and wondered how he felt about his wife’s death and my rebirth in her body.
My view was blocked suddenly by Ivan handing me a drink. I sipped it, looking over at the guests and felt my heart drop as a familiar face caught my attention Felix
I found myself gripping Ivan’s hand involuntarily as I took a big gulp to calm my nerves. I imagined seeing him again and

Hello, Brother. Looks like they let in just anyone into the conference this year.” He sneered, his voice dripping with mirth.
Ivan remained silent. his expression unreadable, but he held my hand tightly, sensing my distress.
Felix continued. ” How did you manage
to weasel your
way in? Security must have become so lax.”
“What do you want. Felix!”
“What do I want don’t think trash like you have a right to be asking me such a question seeing as you sneaked in here with

your sickly Luna”
My face coloured with embarrassment as his words prompted some stares from the guests.
“That’s not true. We were invited, just like you and everyone else. I replied, angry at his haughty attitude.
He gave a dry laugh and signalled a nearby bodyguard to come forward.
Some verinin managed to sneak past your surveillance. Show them out.”
Ivan’s face darkened at his words as he fished out the invitation from his pocket and flashed it at the guard
We are guests, just like you,” he answered coldly, staring at Felix whose smirk faltered and a look of shock crossed his face at the sight of the invitation.
How did you get that? You have never been invited.
That’s a fake invitation!” He declared, his voice ringing out to attract the attention of the guests.
I felt the temperature in the room drop as Ivan’s face turned icy. He walked forward, letting go of my hand and stood toe to
toe with Ivan.
“Insulting the royal family now I see.”
Felix took a step back, his eyes darting around frantically.
“Wh–what do you mean? I never insulted anyone.”
“Calling my invitation fake implies that the royal seal is so fake it can be imitated by just anybody.
And also calling his royal majesty stupid that he can’t employ credible and competent guards.”
I smiled at Ivan’s words wondering how Felix would weasel his wa
