Chapter 9
**Mallory**
I left the hall and strolled outside hoping to find where Ivan wandered to.
The cold air hit me softly and I found myself walking leisurely in the garden next to the fountain, enjoying the flowers and the quiet time.
I thought back to my mother’s necklace around Willow’s neck. My spirit didn’t feel right with it in her possession. Apart from her stealing it from me, something else gnawed at me that couldn’t exactly pinpoint
“If it isn’t Luna to the wannabe Alpha!”
I turned around and came face to face with Willow, standing in the middle of the garden. She must have followed me when I left the hall
I felt my heartbeat increase as I stared at her, but the sight of the necklace calmed me down replacing my anxiety with
anger.
“What do you want?” I replied, eyeing her from a distance.
“Looks like Ivan’s bravado was to impress his precious Luna. To hide what a scum he is. You haven’t been seen in public for quite some time.”
I kept quiet, hoping she would stop her taunts and leave me alone, but it looked like she wasn’t planning on stopping anytime soon.
“What do you want, Willow?” I asked calmly.
“Oh, nothing. Just came to see how you were doing. The last I heard about you, you were one step away from the grave.” She sniggered.
I took a deep breath, willing myself to calm down. To think I once thought of this snake as a friend, I felt extremely disappointed in myself.
“As you can see, I’m doing perfectly okay,” I answered.
“For now. Before you know it, you’ll be confined to your bed again, coughing up phlegm like an old lady and looking like a skeleton. Frail, sickly, with your days numbered and when that time comes, we’ll crush your miserly pack like ants.” She spat
OUL
My eyes blazed as I felt her words cut deep. Frail, my days numbered.
The picture of me against the wall, the sound of my blood dripping in my car came freshly to mind. I took a step forward, walking towards her, but felt a hand hold me back.
“Don’t Evie. She’s not worth it.” Ivan whispered. “Not y
yet.”
But I couldn’t ignore the blazing in my chest. Willow’s words ignited a fire within me and I shrugged his hand off. “You think you’re so good? I began, taking slow steps towards her, my eyes piercing her as panic crept up her face.
“Stealing your late friend’s mate, swindling an innocent girl out of her inheritance, standing here acting righteous and Insulting an alpha’s Luna when you’re what? A mistress?
I could have you executed for threatening my pack.” I spat out a stood in front of her, the ends of her flowy gown beneath my heels.

She stared with
er mouth agape, shocked at my outburst. I was shocked at my outburst.

“Y–you bitch!” She screeched and reached, attempting to claw my face. I predicted her moves and immediately slapped her hand away making her stumble backwards.
Rrip
Willow’s scream echoed through the garden as the delicate fabric of her gown ripped, exposing her nakedness beneath.
She dropped to the floor, desperately gathering the torn fabric to cover herself.
“What’s going on here?” Felix and some guests ran in, alerted by her scream.
I hid a small smile as Ivan walked up to me and shielded me behind his muscular body.
Felix glanced at Willow sobbing pitifully on the ground before turning to stare hatefully at me, making no move to assist her.
“What did you do to her, you sick bitch? Felix exclaimed.
I stopped my lips from spreading into a smile, but my eyes betrayed amusement.
“I didn’t do anything. She just tripped” I replied innocently.
I’m frail and don’t have the power to push a strong lady like Willow. You should take her for a check–up sometime. Looks like all her jumping around and scheming are beginning to affect her legs”
Felix flared at me, not believing my answer but not being able to dispute it.
“Liar! She pushed me.” Willow cried out.
I felt exhausted at the whole act and rolled my eyes at her words
“I think you should help your mistress with some clothes first, Alpha Felix.” Ivan cut in.
If looks could kill, Ivan and I would have died ten times over, judging by the way Felix and Willow looked at us.
He took a menacing step towards me and Ivan shoved me further behind him.
“This is not over!” He spat and led Willow away.
The crowd gradually dispersed and I found myself letting out a deep breath I didn’t realise I was holding.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah. That felt good.” I beamed at him, playing the humiliated look on Willow’s face in my mind.
“It’s just the beginning. We have to be careful.
Felix is a very dangerous person.”
“You don’t need to tell me. I have first–hand experience of his cruelty,” I replied.
“Even in a new body, you’re already on his radar and so is the pack.” He looked like he wanted to say more but decided against it
A glimmer in the grass caught my eye, and I walked forward to inspect it. Happiness flooded my chest as I discovered my mother’s jade necklace that Willow stole.

It must have fallen when she collapsed to the ground and she didn’t notice. I picked up the necklace with shaky fingers, admiring the design and beating myself up for casting it out. The only memory I had of my mother.
I put the necklace around my neck, promising myself never to take it off.
It felt extremely cold on my skin and suddenly began glowing, emitting a bright blue light.
A powerful surge like electricity went through me, and my heartbeat quickened.
“What’s happening?” I looked up in fear at Ivan who rushed to my side.
The power continued to get stronger till I couldn’t bear it again and felt my vision gradually go dark
“Mallory!”
Ivan’s voice sounded distant as he called out and his arms went round me as my vision went dark
