“Oh my God, what have I gotten myself into?” I cried “What have I done?”
A month had gone by, and my entire world had collapsed. With rembling hands, I gripped the small pregnancy test, sitting there and looking at the display that had just told me something was not prepared to deal with. Pregnant.
The word appeared like a headline I read aloud and which echoed in my head like a strobe light. Pregnant. I attempt to take a breath, but no matter how deep I try to go it feels uneasy. My hand touched my stomach, and it was as slender as before, but in it, there was life. A life that wasn’t just created by me, but by him too
Alexander. Alexander was the father of my baby.
It felt more than my brain could handle and tears welled up once more. How had this happened? How had one reckless drunken night of revenge spiraled out of control into this? But it was never meant to escalate to this level.
All I wanted was to repay the same treatment to Laila in equal measure for betraying me by sleeping with Jericho. But now, I was the one holding the consequences. I had gone too far, and the result is for real now, I was carrying the baby of her father.
Disoriented, I came out of the bathroom and walked straight to the living room of the apartment where Enrique was lying on the couch browsing through his phone and his demeanor changed the moment he saw me.
“I. It’s positive, Enrique. “I’m pregnant,” I managed to speak in a soft tone, but then burst out sobbing, holding my stomach. I wasn’t ready for this. I wasn’t ready to become a mother, yet. Enrique blinked in disbelief and stood up hastily from the couch running towards me.
“Oh, Cat,” he said as he pulled me in close and hugged me. “Shh don’t cry. Just stay calm. It’s going to be alright. Everything is going to be just fine.”
I shook my head, attempting to at least find
some consolation within his words but to no avail.
“I don’t know, Enrique. What am I going to do? I never expected it to be like this. I thought… I dreamt of a happy life to get married, to have children, to have a baby in a happy family, Not like this.”
He patted my back reassuringly then spoke softly to me. “I know sweetie. I understand it’s not the way you expected it to be. But a baby is never a mistake. Regardless of whether it has been planned or not, it is a gift. You’ll figure this out. You are strong and… Alexander, I am sure he will not escape from his duty. From his baby. You know he deserves to know, right?”
I nodded without hesitation. “Of course, I’ll tell him. He deserve to know that he will be a father. This is not something I can cover up. But I’m terrified, Enrique. I don’t know how he’ll react. The last time we met he discovered what I did and he said that I was a slut, Enrique. He despises me and he has every reason to despise me. After all, I did use him to get back at his daughter.”
After a moment of silent contemplation, Enrique’s face scowled. “What about Laila? Have you considered how she will accept it?
And I just closed my eyes leaning on the table and took a deep breath sighing, my mind becoming more and more heavy. “That’s the thing. I haven’t thought about her. I stopped thinking the night I decided to sleep with Alexander. I was so heartbroken and drunk. And if only I had kept my head down, this never would’ve happened to me. I would not have been intimate with him and I would not be pregnant now. I was just too consumed with this revenge thing that I didn’t think. Now, I don’t know who is worse. Laila or me?” I sighed, shaking my head “Well, don’t answer to that because I know it is me

Full of remorse. Enrique slowly moved his head from side to side. “I’m sorry, Cat I wish ever had advised you
I that you should seek to take revenge on Laila’s dad. If I hadn’t, perhaps none of this would have transpired.”
“Hey, stop blaming yourself,” I smiled gently and held his hand tight. “You know we were both intoxicated that night. Yes, you proposed it but I was the one who acted on it. This isn’t on you. It’s my doing and now it’s my job to clean up the mess.”
“Thank you so much,” Enrique responded with a smile and his facial muscles relaxed. “I mean it, though and genuinely. I am here for you. No matter what happens. You’ve got me.”
“Thanks, Enrique,” I said, and managed to smile at him a little.
“Now get up, we have things to do.” He said, getting up from the couch, already bringing my overcoat to me, along with his. I took it with a frown and asked.
“Hmmm. like what?” I asked, confused.
Enrique smiled wickedly. “Like going to see your baby daddy.”
My heart skipped a beat. “Wait, what? Now? I can’t… I’m not ready”
“Darling, you’ll never be ready for this discussion,” Enrique told me as he happened to help me stand up from the sofa. “But the longer you wait, the harder it’ll get. You need to tell him.”
I could only give a nod as I felt the implication of what I needed to do slowly dawn on me. “You are right,” I muttered. “I have to do this.”
“Exactly, Enrique said, extending my coat towards me. “So come on, let’s go and get you to Alexander before you have second thoughts.” With that said, he dragged me out of the building with him, and drove to Winters Holdings & Inc. Alexander’s multi–billion–dollar company.
“Hello, Welcome to Winters Holdings & Inc. I am Rebecca White How can I help you today?” a cheerful receptionist asked with a polite smile.
“Hi, My name is Cat Mendoza and I am here to meet Alexander Winters,” I replied, in a nervous tone.
“Have you got an appointment with Mr. Winters?” she asked, typing on the keyboard keys.
“No, I don…” I was cut off by the deep voice of none other than Alexander, who was just entering the building with his security team, looking devilishly hot and handsome like always, His eyes pierced into mine and nodded at me to follow him.
“Follow me.” He orders, in an authoritative tone, making my whole body tremble with just his presence and his dominated voice. Enrique nodded, pushing me to follow Alexander, as my legs gave it away and went paralyzed in one place..
“Are you coming or not, Miss. Mendoza?” his voice was cold and stern this time “I don’t have the whole day to waste on you”
“Co… Coming,” I spoke in barely an audible voice and followed him in his private elevator that he was keeping open for me. As soon as the double doors closed leaving us in the lift, I felt the heat of his look upon me.
“What are you doing over here, Cat?” he asked, in a deep and dominating voice of a businessman “What do you want now?” I closed my eyes, don’t know how to answer his question, because to be honest I didn’t know where to begin so I just blurted out the words, I came here to tell him.
I am pregnant, Alexander. I announced, “The baby is yours.”
“What?” The words echoed through the small lift, his shock evident in his voice. “You are pregnant?!”
