Zoey watched as Nelson reached for her face. Without hesitation, she grabbed his fingers and twisted them sharply, causing him to howl in pain. With a swift turn, Zoey moved behind the man, using her height advantage to grip the back of his collar and pull him backward. Nelson was bent in an awkward position, his neck exposed.

With Nelson as a human shield, Zoey quickly moved from the second floor to the ground floor, Just as she reached the bottom, the villa door was kicked open with a loud bang.
A group of men in black tactical jackets stormed in, and Troy pushed Russell inside.

Russell’s pupils constricted in alarm as he shouted, “Watch out!”
The lights in the room went out, followed by the deafening crash of the chandelier shattering on the floor.
In an instant, Zoey felt someone fall into her arms. The familiar scent of the man, Russell, filled her nostrils, and for a brief moment, she thought she was holding him. She momentarily lost focus, but she quickly recovered as she heard Nelson’s voice shouting, “Sho at woman!”
Zoey furrowed her brows. What did he mean by shooting “that woman“? It was clear Nelson intended to kill both her and Russell at the same time.
The sound of gunfire erupted around them.
Just as Troy was pushing Russell toward the door, a red laser sight appeared on Russell’s chest.
Zoey stood tall to shield him, and immediately, a dull thud echoed through the room as a bullet hit her.
Troy’s eyes widened in shock as he quickly pulled Russell and Zoey back, with the rest of the group engaging in a chaotic firefight inside the villa.
Zoey, now nestled in Russell’s arms, could feel his heart racing, and she realized he had noticed that she had blocked the bullet for him.
Under the headlights of the car, Russell noticed blood starting to seep from Zoey’s right arm. His face tightened in concern.

Russell then refocused and spoke with resolve. “There’s a chance the police have been notified. We need to clear out in five minutes.”
Troy nodded. “Understood. Nelson got lucky this time.”
Russell’s eyes narrowed. “Don’t involve Dr. Z. As for Nelson, his true nature is already starting to show. Soon, he won’t be able to hide it.”
Five minutes later, Russell and his men had evacuated the villa. The room, once filled with lights and laughter, now lay in chaos.

Nelson stormed out of the room, his eyes burning with rage as he kicked a broken chair. “Not a single one of Russell’s men was caught! You’re all worthless!
The man with triangular eyes, wearing a baseball cap, said, “I had Russell in my sights, but that Dr. Z woman blocked the shot.”
Nelson clenched his jaw “This woman must be closely
connected to Russell, ise she wouldn’t have taken the bullet for him. Russell has always valued loyalty, so if we find out where she is, we can control the situation again. I refuse to believe Russell will be so ungrateful!”
The man with triangular eyes raised a concern. “This will only make Russell more hostile toward us.”
“Who cares?” Nelson sneered, his voice low and threatening. “Next time, I’ll make him a corpse! My father may be afraid of him, but I’m not.”
Just then, the man with triangular eyes answered his phone and reported, “The police are on their way.”
Nelson glared at him. “Tell them we were attacked by unknown armed assailants.”
The man frowned. “Why not say it was Russell who attacked you?”

Zoey pursed her lips. “It’s not too bad. The bullet grazed my right shoulder. Let’s hurry to Hines Hall so I can get the bullet out.”
Forty minutes later, they arrived at Hines Hall.
Zoey and Roland rushed inside, and Octavio immediately locked the door behind them.
Zoey’s wound was close to hitting the bone, but luckily it wasn’t too deep.
After Roland extracted the bullet, he looked at her with suspicion. “Zoey, how did you get hurt?”
“I took a bullet for Russell.”
Roland’s hands faltered as he bandaged her wound. “You really are a love–struck fool:”

“Thanks,” Zoey said as she took the bag and went to change.
A short while later, she came out, waved goodbye to them both, and said, “I’ll head back now. If anything comes up, contact me. Roland, you stay here with Octavio.”
Roland nodded. “Don’t worry, Zoey.”
