Chapter 49 Only You Can Heal My Hidden Illness
The old lady was particularly fond of Zoey. After dinner, she invited her to stay and make peach blossom cakes together.
Zoey loved good food and was interested in pastry–making, so she was happy to learn from the old lady.
While waiting for the cakes to steam, the old lady glanced around the kitchen to make sure no one was nearby before pulling Zoey aside and whispering, “Zoey, tell me honestly, how intimate are you and Russell?”
Zoey awkwardly tugged at the corner of her lips. She knew the old lady was asking about Russell’s… performance in certain matters. It was a sensitive topic, and she wasn’t sure how to respond. Although they hadn’t had any physical relations, she could tell that Russell was cable enough.
She cleared her throat lightly. “Well…”
The old lady raised her hand to stop her. Sighing, she said, “I understand. Russell… is really not capable in that area. You’re such an excellent woman; marrying him is his luck. When a couple is together, in the short term, emotional and material support can make up for the lack, but as time goes on, if there isn’t anything… substantial…”
Zoey grasped the old lady’s hand. “Mom, don’t worry. With the divine doctor around, we’ll make sure to cure him.”
The old lady’s eyes lit up, but then her face became slightly

anxious. “Russell is so proud. I worry he won’t want to ask the doctor. Maybe you can talk to the doctor about it for him?”
Zoey fought back a laugh and nodded. “Okay, I’ll mention it when I see her.”
“What will you mention?” Russell’s voice suddenly came from behind, and Zoey turned to see him wheeling in.
The old lady smiled. “Oh, nothing. Zoey and I were just making peach blossom cakes. When you two leave, take some with you. And I also brewed some peach blossom wine. Zoey hasn’t tasted it yet; it’s really good.”
Russell suddenly remembered the last time Zoey had drunk too much and her dress had split open, revealing her fair skin. He felt a bit thirsty and swallowed. “She can’t drink.”
Zoey walked over to him, holding his hand, his long fingers gently brushing against hers. She shook his hand. “I’ll just have a little bit.”
“No,” Russell replied firmly.
Zoey made a small gesture with her fingers. “Just a tiny bit, please? I really like peach blossom wine.”
Her little act of charm worked on Russell, and he finally relented. “Fine, just a little.”
Zoey nodded seriously. “Don’t worry, I promise I won’t drink too much.”
The old lady watched the two interact, feeling very happy in her heart. Her only wish in life was for Russell to get married and

have children. Now that he had married, once his condition was treated, children would follow.
In the past, many women had wanted to marry Russell, regardless of whether he could be “humane,” attracted only by his looks and status. The old lady had watched it all and had felt heartbroken.
Who didn’t want their children to find someone they truly loved? After all, the Maddox family didn’t need to make alliances through marriage. True love was what mattered most.
With Russell in his current situation, the chances of finding true love were slim. But when she first met Zoey, she liked her instantly. Zoey had a pair of clean innocent eyes that were much more endearing than the sweet–talking Ariana.
The engagement banquet drama had made her heart sink, especially when Zoey had called off the engagement. She had been nervous at the time, but never expected things to turn around. Zoey had decided to rry Russell after all.
Fortunately, Russell had agreed, and the woman who was once his fiancée had quickly become his wife.
When the peach blossom cakes were done steaming, the old lady took out a small jar of peach blossom wine. She packed the cakes and wine and handed them to Russell.
Zoey reached for them, but the old lady stopped her. “They’re not heavy. Let him carry them. This wine still has a bit of alcohol in it. Don’t be greedy.”
Zoey smiled and nodded.

Once in the car, Zoey unwrapped the paper package, and the sweet fragrance of peach blossoms wafted out. The scent was sweet and lingering.
Zoey picked up a piece and fed it to Russell. “Try it.”
Russell didn’t like sweet food, but he gladly accepted the bite from Zoey, even finding the peach blossom cake delicious.
“How is it?” Zoey asked eagerly.
“It’s okay,” Russell replied.
Zoey took a bite herself, looking satisfied. “It’s super delicious.”
Russell watched her enjoy it and then asked, “Back in the
kitchen, you said you needed to tell someone something. Who were you talking about?”
Zoey choked on her cake for a moment, coughing a few times. Russell immediately patted her back.
“Are you okay?” he asked.
After coughing for a while, Zoey finally said, “Mom thinks you’re too proud to ask the divine doctor for help with your… condition. She asked me to talk to the doctor for you.”
Russell pressed his fingers to his forehead. “I see.”
Zoey smiled mischievously and put the cake aside. She leaned toward him and asked, “Do you want me to treat you?”
Russell looked at her, his gaze dark and intense. “How would you treat me?”

Without hesitation, Zoey sat on his lap, her hands resting on his chest. “How about like this?”
“Not quite,” Russell said, his voice low.
Zoey leaned in closer, her nose touching his. “How about this?”
Russell’s throat tightened, his voice turning husky. “That’s still not quite it.”
Zoey’s lips brushed against his. “Then how about this?”
Russell’s hand moved to the back of her head, pulling her into a deep kiss. He took control, his mouth exploring hers, capturing all the air she breathed.
They kissed until they were both breathless. Only then did Russell release her.
“Do I still need treatment?” Zoey asked, sensing the change in his body.
Russell looked at her, his lips c ng slightly. “No. But maybe you need to sit somewhere else?
“Why?” Zoey murmured, still out of breath.
Zoey bit her lip, quietly muttering, “You’re like a furnace. You’re really hot.”
Russell found her description amusing. He cupped her chin. “Zoey, I think I need treatment.”
Zoey blinked in confusion. “Why?”
Russell’s smile widened. “Because my hidden illness can only

be cured by you.”
Zoey’s face flushed instantly. She hadn’t expected Russell to be so smooth with his words.
“Miss divine doctor, will you treat me?” Russell teased, his voice
low.
Zoey trembled slightly, her eyes fluttering. “I will treat you.”
Russell kissed her forehead gently. “When will you treat me?”
Zoey bit her lip. “Whenever you’re ready to cooperate, Mr. Russell.”
Russell chuckled softly. “Zoey, you’re adorable.”
When they arrived at Serene Manor, Troy opened the car door.
Seeing Zoey’s swollen lips, Troy couldn’t help but think to himself: “Has Mr. Russell broken his celibacy curse since he got together with Zoey? But this is to much–he’s left her lips all swollen.”
Russell noticed Troy staring at Zoey’s face and frowned. “What are you looking at?”
Troy quickly lowered his gaze. “I just think the young lady and Mr. Russell make a perfect couple.”
Russell’s frown finally relaxed,
Zoey thanked Troy and then helped Russell into the villa.
That night, Russell helped Zoey apply medicine to her lips. “Does it still hurt?”

Russell looked at the tender skin on her lips, his heart aching. “From now on, no matter how dangerous it is, you are not allowed to stand in front of me. Understand?”
Zoey turned back to look at him. “But I don’t want you to get hurt. I’d rather it be me.”
“Zoey…” Russell reached out, turning her face toward him. He kissed her deeply, gently and passionately, showing his love for her in every kiss.
