Chapter 50 Do You Need Me to Help Treat Your Hidden Illness?
The intense atmosphere caused Russell to lose some control. He wrapped one arm around Zoey’s slender waist and placed his hand at the back of her head, kissing her more fervently.
Zoey felt as though the air was being stolen from her mouth as her hands weakly rested on the man’s shoulders, utterly overwhelmed by his kiss.
Until her back sank into the soft cushions, Russell’s rough. hands slipped beneath her nightgown, tracing her beautiful waistline as they moved upwards.
Zoey gasped softly, the sensation stimulating Russell’s senses even further. He kissed her earlobe, his voice husky. “Zoey…”
His tongue was so hot that Zoey trembled, her hands cupping his handsome face. “Do you need me to help you treat your hidden illness?”
Russell’s Adam’s apple bobbed, and before he could speak, Zoey tilted her head and kissed him again.
Suddenly, a loud, urgent knock echoed at the door.
Their lips parted, both of them gasping for breath.
Russell stood up, exhaling deeply before turning toward the door with a frown. “What is it?”
Emilee’s anxious voice came from the other side. “Miss,

someone has thrown the young lady outside the gate of Serene Manor. She’s badly injured!”
Russell furrowed his brow, pulling Zoey off the bed. Together, they headed for the living room.
As they exited the elevator, Zoey saw Serene Manor’s. bodyguards carrying a woman with disheveled hair and clothes. The woman had visible wounds on her legs, looking utterly pitiful.
Pushing Russell closer, Zoey saw the woman’s face–bloodshot eyes, and a trickle of blood at her mouth. It was Abigail.
“Russell…” Abigail whispered before collapsing unconscious.
Russell raised his chin. “Take her to the bedroom next to Carolyn’s.”
Emilee nodded, “I’ll go prepare the room.”
After exchanging a glance with Zoey, they both followed upstairs.
Once they were alone, Zoey sat beside Abigail, examining her injuries. She had bruises and cuts all over, clearly in severe pain. Zoey checked her pulse–it seemed like she had no internal injuries.
Zoey took out her acupuncture kit and retrieved a slender silver needle, which gleamed under the light. She pressed the needle into Abigail’s scalp. Immediately, Abigail relaxed, as if the tension had drained from her body.
Russell, watching intently, asked, “What’s wrong with her?”

“She was just too anxious earlier. Now that I’ve needled her, she‘ s asleep.”
“You mean she was pretending to be unconscious?” Russell asked, his voice tinged with disbelief.
Zoey nodded. “Yes. She’s quite the actress, no wonder she’s an award–winning actress. She tricked a lot of people, but not my silver needle. I didn’t expect her to be the one behind all this. Seems like she couldn’t keep her cool for too long.”
Russell’s lips formed a thin line. “Why didn’t she want Carolyn to wake up?”
“We’ll find out when Carolyn wakes up,” Zoey replied, rubbing her chin thoughtfully. “I think Abigail will make a move this week. We’ll just wait for the show to unfold.”
Back in the bedroom, Zoey’s phone rang. It was Ariana.
Zoey smirked before answering, only to be greeted by a shrill
scream.
“Zoey! It’s you, isn’t it? You framed Nelson and whispered to Russell, making him kick Nelson out of the Maddox family! How could you be so cruel? Are you trying to force us into a corner? I called you sister, and yet you never treated me like one!”
Zoey interrupted her, “Did you ever treat me like a sister? You stole my fiancé, and though I don’t care about that scumbag, the fact that you did it behind my back is your fault. You took my design, made me your substitute, and even used my sketches as your own. Ariana, tell me what did I ever do to you that made you treat me like a fool? You say I framed Nelson? Then go find proof, don’t try to trick me! As for why he was expelled

from the Maddox family, it’s because he committed a grave offense. That he’s not already rotting in jail is Russell’s mercy. If you love Nelson so much, why don’t you go and help him build something from nothing?”
“You-!”
“Oh, by the way, I’m no longer your sister. I’ve severed ties with. the Harmon family. If you don’t believe me, check the papers from a few days ago. I even published an announcement.”
“Ariana, don’t you care about Grandpa’s health?” Zoey’s tone immediately darkened.
Zoey’s voice turned cold. “Are you threatening me?”
“Ariana, you may have cut ties with the Harmon family, but Grandpa is still part of it. You don’t want to see him suffer, do you? He’s old. Illness and death are natural for someone his age.”
Zoey’s mind flashed back to her past life, when she had been Russell’s secretary, accompanying him on an overseas trip. During that time, her grandfather suddenly passed away from a heart attack, and the Harmon family had cremated him without waiting for her to return. When she came back, all she had was a cold, empty grave.
Now, in this new life, Ariana was still targeting her grandfather, and the timeline had moved up.
Zoey couldn’t let anything happen to Grandpa.
Her eyes turned icy. “Ariana, if you dare harm Grandpa, I will make you regret it! You’ll beg for mercy but never find peace!”

Ariana realized that Zoey was furious and that threatening her with Grandpa was working. “We’ll see what you do,” she said before abruptly hanging up.
She looked at Nelson, who was lying on the bed. “Nelson, I’ve got Zoey right where I want her. It’s all her fault that we ended up like this. We must repay this debt!”
Nelson gritted his teeth, his face twisted in pain. “The priority is to hide the old man. That way, we can control Zoey. Once we have her, Russell will have no choice but to compromise. They‘ ve shown no mercy to me, so I won’t show any to them!”
At the same time, Zoey, having guessed what Nelson and Ariana were planning, recorded their conversation and uploaded it to the internet.
