Chapter 6
Even when I went on dates with Charlie, he would silently follow behind us.
He would remember my period, and when someone handed me a cold soda, he would swap it for hot milk.
He knew my class schedule and would reserve a seat for me an hour early.
At the time. I always thought it was Charlie who had asked him to do this,
Tell me thanks to Charlie.”
I was immersed in the sweetness of being in love, and I spoke these words without thinking, but he never denied it.
Now, thinking back, he must have felt uncomfortable inside.
I remember one time when we played a game of truth or dare.
Jerry drew the question, and everyone asked him who he liked and if they were present.
Jerry looked at me and then lowered his head and lightly laughed. “I choose to drink”
That day, he drank five whole bottles of alcohol
He got himself completely drunk
But he watched as Charlie took me away.
“Isla, 1 stood by your side, but I had no right to care for you
That feeling, I endured it for eight whole years.”
“Now, the heavens have finally shown me some mercy,”
Jerry gently embraced me, kissed me again and agam, as if he had finally obtained the treasure he had longed for.
la, you are also my heart.”
As I laughed and tried to leave, he grabbed my hand, knelt down on one knee, and pulled a ring out of his pocket.
Isla, will you marry me?”
“I won’t be like Charlie. I’ve waited for you for eight years, and I’ll love and protect you for the rest of my life.”
His deeply affectionate expression nearly melted my heart,
Thesitated for a moment, but in the end. I surrendered.
“I do”
