Chapter 122
Nyx didn’t like him. She must have been annoyed by his sudden confession, and maybe she would distance herself from him completely. Kai tossed and turned all night. Early the next morning, with a nervous heart, he sent Nyx his medical report and photos.
In the past, Nyx would reply with a cute bunny emoji to acknowledge it. If Nyx didn’t reply today, he’d gather his courage and go apologize to her in person. Kai quietly made up his mind
After sending the message, he nervously prayed in his heart, until the notification sound from his special contact came through, a sound like music to his ears, making him feel as if he had been pardoned.
Nyx: [Your Loss of Control Index is a bit high. Was it because of the perfume yesterday?]
Nyx: [Let’s meet after you finish work today. I’ll help you with some Mental Soothing.]
Kai stared at the screen without blinking, in disbelief. In his mind, as long as Nyx would reply to him, not distancing or ignoring him because of what happened yesterday, that would already be an immense blessing.
He never expected Nyx would actually ask to meet him and offer to give him a Mental Soothing. Such an unexpected surprise made him almost want to transform into beast form and roll happily on the ground.
He didn’t want to wait until after work; he wanted to find Nyx right now.
In the bustling arena, Nyx was watching the Mecha Combat Tournament organized by the Imperial Military Academy. The one who actually wanted to watch the competition was Xivar.

She had watched the mecha competition live stream every year, but this year was her first time watching it live, so she was a little nervous.
Nyx was accompanying her, and they were seated in the front row of the stands with a great view, with Theon and Zayne behind them, along with Xivar’s two companions.
For some reason, Nyx felt a bit anxious today and couldn’t help but furrow her brows.
“Look! The blue team’s mecha is moving so fast! It must have the T–917 Anti–Grav Thruster,” Xivar said excitedly, analyzing the mechas, occasionally pulling Nyx into the conversation, “This one would be perfect for you.”
Nyx’s wandering thoughts were pulled back, and she smiled warmly, nodding at Xivar.
“The weapon system should be simplified, maybe just one or two powerful weapons,” Xivar continued, squinting her eyes, analyzing the newly introduced mechas to figure out what weapons they had.
Her gaze fell on the inconspicuous gray mecha from the red team, and she froze. “That one!”
It looked like a regular particle weapon, but something felt off. She took a closer look, and suddenly, the gray mecha moved, and that sense of unease instantly grew. Xivar gasped, “An Entropy Blaster.”
‘Why would such an illegal weapon be here?‘ she wondered.
On Central Planet, most weapons are banned by law to maintain public order. Only the Palace and the military have the right to possess powerful weapons, but even they must store them properly and only use them when necessary.
The mecha competition organized by the military academy can feature thermal weapons, but the types are strictly limited, and an Entropy Blaster is absolutely forbidden.
The Entropy Blaster has a unique power: it doesn’t target humans, but rather is designed to break through defense systems.

It’s highly destructive to home security systems, protective walls in the arena, and personal portable shields.
This gray mecha clearly broke the rules by installing an Entropy Blaster, and its intentions were definitely malicious.
Upon seeing the Entropy Blaster, the gray mecha’s opponent panicked. Just a single hit would destroy their defense system, turning this competition into a life–or–death situation instead of a simple point–based match.
The opponent backed away in fear. But the gray mecha’s target wasn’t him; it fired directly at the arena’s protective wall.
In the stands, the school staff had already begun to evacuate the spectators in an orderly fashion. Nyx was being held by Theon, and Zayne was bringing up the rear, quickly retreating.
The gray mecha fired a few shots, destroying the protective wall and then began indiscriminately shooting in all directions, its behavior seeming almost like an act of social revenge.
Using the chaotic gunfire as cover, the mecha aimed directly at Nyx and fired a high–intensity particle attack. With an S–level male’s abilities, there was no way to dodge, especially while carrying a female as a burden.
But Theon’s eyes narrowed, and with incredible speed, he carried Nyx and dodged the attack. Under Nyx’s Mental Soothing, his condition was always at its peak, far exceeding the S–level standards in his records.
This clearly exceeded the attacker’s expectations. Seeing that Nyx was unharmed, the gray mecha was momentarily stunned, its body shaking in shock.
Theon and Zayne didn’t let their guard down: Missing one shot wasn’t enough. The enemy had the Entropy Blaster, and no defense system could stop it; passive evasion wasn’t a long–term solution. They needed to take this person down first.
Zayne spoke coldly to Theon, “I’ll go.”
“I’ll go.” Nyx suddenly heard a familiar voice. “You two stay here and protect her.” With a brief word, a black mecha sho the three of them.
Nyx didn’t see his face, but from the voice, she immediately recognized, “Kai.”
Hearing her voice, Kai paused for a moment but didn’t turn back. The ferocity of an SS–level male was unmatched.
Kai controlled the black mecha borrowed from other competitors. After a brief adjustment, he quickly adapted to it. Taking a huge risk, he closed in, making up for the gap in equipment with his battle skills.
Although Kai worked in a civilian role, he was exceptionally skilled in combat. The gray mecha was no match for him. Even with the Entropy Blaster, it was suppressed and couldn’t focus on attacking Nyx.
In an instant, the gray mecha watched as Nyx, under the protection of her two guardians, successfully withdrew, and its vision could no longer catch sight of her. It immediately attempted to retreat from the battle.
Kai didn’t give him a chance to catch up with Nyx. He knocked him down, disarmed him, and destroyed the core system in one smooth motion. With the core system destroyed, the gray mech lost all its mobility. The battle was over.
Faintly, Kai suddenly heard a very weak cry for help, seemingly coming from inside the gray mech. “Help me. No, no, no. Don’t explode, I don’t want to die.”
A sudden sense of urgency hit him. Kai’s nerves tightened in an instant, but it was too late. The gray mech had an additional self–destruct system installed, beyond just the core system.
Qutside the venue, Nyx saw the security personnel, fully armed, rushing toward the scene, and she breathed a slight sigh of relief. But her heart was still uneasy, and she couldn’t help but frown, pressing her hand over her chest.
Just as her hand touched her heartbeat, a deafening explosion rang out. Nyx trembled all over. “Kai!”

The shockwave from the explosion made her dizzy. Shock and anger filled her, and she collapsed into Theon’s arms, fainting. When she woke up, she was in the hospital.

As soon as she opened her eyes, Nyx panicked and tried to sit up but her forehead slammed into the medical pod’s door with a loud thud, startling Zayne, who was standing nearby. “Nyx does your head hurt?”
Nyx seemed to not hear him. Her breathing was rapid, almost incoherent, “What about him? How is Kai?”

When she asked about Kai, Zayne’s expression changed. But he quickly calmed down and softly reassured Nyx, “Kai is still alive. His external injuries have been healed, but the internal ones will need some time to recover. He’ll definitely get better.”
An SS–level male’s body was incredibly resilient, almost unnaturally so. Even though he was in the center of the explosion, with the mech destroyed and the attacker dead, Kai still managed to survive.
In a near–death state, he had supported himself with his stronger beast form until help arrived, saving his life. Unfortunately, during this time, his Loss of Control Index had reached 100. Even though he had managed to survive, there was no saving him.
Zayne sighed silently. From now on, Kai would be a mad beast, never able to return to his human form. A female’s Mental Soothing couldn’t save a male who had completely lost control like this.
The empire had never had a case where the Loss of Control Index reached 100 and then recovered. Even when a female was willing to accept her partner’s beast form and try to use Mental Soothing, none had ever succeeded.
