Chapter 123
Chapter 123
In the high–risk observation room, Kai had been taken out of the medical pod, but he hadn’t woken up yet,
Nyx hurried in and saw a familiar leopard. Though there were no visible wounds, it lay there motionless, restrained by several fixing straps. In all the time she had known him, she had never seen the leopard so still.
Nyx approached the leopard, carefully checking for any hidden injuries. Once she confirmed his breathing was steady and he seemed to be out of immediate danger, she sighed in relief.
But before she could fully relax, she suddenly sensed that something was wrong–There was no black mist around the leopard.
Just this morning, Kai had sent her a health report, and it showed his Loss of Control Index was at 47. But now, there was no trace of black mist around the leopard, as if he were a real wild animal, with not a single strand of black mist present,
‘Is this really Kai?‘ Nyx thought. She felt a chill run down her spine.
“You. you’re really not lying to me?” said Nyx. She wondered if it was Kai’s clone or some kind of mechanical bionic leopard, and if the real Kai had already died.
Terrifying thoughts began to form in Nyx’s mind, and her expression shifted with each passing moment.
The medical staff present weren’t very good at lying.
Although they had planned to temporarily keep the fact that Kai’s Loss of Control Index had reached 100 from Nyx and slowly hint at it to her later, trying to ease her into accepting the reality, as soon as Nyx questioned them, they immediately got nervous and revealed their guilt.
When Nyx turned around and saw their evasive gazes, she sensed something was wrong. “Where is Kai?” she pressed.
“Uh, well.” The medical staff didn’t immediately follow her line of thought, looking at each other. “Lord Kai is right in front of you.”
Zayne, who understood Nyx better, quickly guessed what she was thinking, pulled her aside, took her hand, and reassured her, “Don’t worry, that’s Kai.”
After just a short moment, Nyx’s palms were already wet with sweat, so nervous that beads of perspiration formed. The caregivers exchanged glances, nodded, and decided to tell her the truth. Given Nyx’s personality, if they didn’t come clean quickly, she would be left anxious and making wild guesses.
“Loss of Control Index 100?” Nyx looked at Kai’s health report, her body trembling.
The air in the hospital room was heavy, and the medical staff was unusually quiet. The Empire’s top diplomat had fallen into such a tragic state–no one could help but feel sorrow for him.
Even Felix, who was usually indifferent, couldn’t help but sigh, pulling Nyx’s shoulder and comforting her, “You should spend more time with him now.”
They all knew that Kai had become this way because of Nyx. The leopard had risked everything to protect Nyx, but now he could no longer speak to her. And for Nyx’s safety, he would not be allowed to meet her more than a few times.
“Is he really beyond saving?” Nyx couldn’t believe it.
Facing Nyx’s helpless, pitiful eyes, no one nodded or spoke, but the silence spoke volumes.
In the oppressive atmosphere, the leopard slowly regained consciousness. Nyx rushed to check on him, only to see his green beast eyes full of animalistic rage, with no sign of reason.

The surrounding environment seemed to agitate the sensitive leopard, and he let out a furious roar. If not for the restraints, it seemed like he might lunge at the delicate female in front of him, venting his anger.
Compared to the previous times he lost control, he was even more violent now.
“Nyx!” The caregivers anxiously urged her to stay away.
Nyx didn’t care about her fear; her heart was overwhelmed with sorrow. She took a few shallow breaths, collapsed beside the leopard, and couldn’t help but sob uncontrollably.
The leopard froze. He stared at Nyx intently, no longer growling, making a noise that seemed to be full of confusion. Tears fell onto him, and he trembled.
The tears soaked a patch of his fur, almost as if it burned him, making him uneasy. The leopard struggled even more violently, trying to break free from the restraints.
“Wait for me.” Nyx took a deep breath, wiped her tears, and released her Soul Form.
The little sapling struggled to emit a glowing aura, fully enveloping the leopard.
One minute passed. Two minutes passed. The other males present felt the calming energy, but the leopard showed no reaction, still grinding his teeth and struggling against the restraints.
It seemed useless. After several minutes of stalemate, the medical staff could no longer bear to watch. “Please give up, Lord Nyx.”
“Loss of Control Index 100–he’s definitely beyond saving.”
“We will take good care of Lord Kai, don’t be too heartbroken.”
To sacrifice for an SSS–level female was an honor beyond measure. In the final stage of his life, the Empire would ensure that Kai received the best care, and Nyx’s caregivers were willing to do everything they could for him.
The voices of advice filled the room, but Nyx wasn’t giving up. She fixed her gaze on those green eyes, suddenly holding her breath and lowering her head to press her forehead to the leopard’s.
Seeing her so daring, everyone around was shocked. After confirming that the leopard showed no signs of aggression, they hesitantly stepped back, not stopping her.
Nyx stayed still, and so did the leopard. They remained like that, their foreheads touching, their breaths mingling. Everyone watched the scene in silence, their hearts full of emotions. After a long while, they quietly left the room, giving the pair some alone time.
In a daze, Nyx suddenly found herself in a chilly, wind–blown estate. She looked around, recognizing the estate. It seemed to belong to Kai’s father, Darius.
It seemed like a dream. Once she realized it was a dream, the moment to wake up arrived, but she still didn’t pull away. From the nearby bushes, there came a rustling sound. Nyx instinctively bent down and to her surprise, saw a young leopard.
Compared to the Kai she frequently dealt with, this young leopard was pitifully small. Its frame looked strong, but it had almost no muscle, and its fur was dull and lifeless. A strong wave of pity surged in her heart.
Nyx reached out to pet it, but her hand passed right through the young leopard. She stared at her hand, unable to understand why it went through the leopard.
There was no time to think deeply as her attention was fully seized by the gruesome, terrifying bloodstains all over the leopard’s body. Whip marks, so many whip marks.
Who could do such a thing, torturing such a small leopard?‘ she thought.

Chapter 123
“Damn it, how did he get away?”
“Haha, it’s fine, he’ll come back soon enough”
“When he comes back, I’ll cut his tail in two”
“I’ll break his legs.”
The laughter of two boys reached Nyx’s ears, and rage flared inside her. She clenched her fists in anger.
The culprits of the young leopard’s abuse had appeared. Nyx didn’t even consider whether, as an outsider, she should retreat. She stood there, fists clenched in fury, staring at the two figures approaching.
When she saw their faces, she froze. These two boys were the exact likeness of the two sons of Eliana when they were young.
So, this poor young leopard was probably Kai. And she was in the memory of Kai’s past.
The two sons of Eliana seemed to have been disabled, but these two boys appeared healthy, with no visible disabilities. Nyx didn’t know if their future disabilities were connected to Kai’s revenge.
But right now, in front of her, the young leopard was being caught by these two malicious brothers, about to endure cruel abuse. She wondered if Kai had really experienced all of this.
The thought of this possibility made Nyx shiver. She rushed forward, pushing the two boys aside, trying to rescue the young leopard from their hands.
But she couldn’t touch the boys, nor the young leopard. It was as if she were a mere visitor with no power to change anything. She could only watch helplessly as everything unfolded.
Even so, Nyx couldn’t give up. Even though she knew it was hopeless, she kept trying to snatch the young leopard, wanting to hold him close.
One of the boys pinned the young leopard to the ground. The other boy took out a sharp pair of scissors, aiming for the young leopard’s tail.
Nyx’s heart nearly leaped out of her chest. Without thinking, she lunged at the young leopard, even lying flat on the ground to shield him from the scissors with her own body.
Trembling all over, she closed her eyes in agony. But then, the sensation in her arms suddenly felt real–soft, warm, pressing tightly against her body.
Nyx opened her eyes wide. She was back in the hospital room. In her arms was no longer a young leopard, but a large adult leopard, its big head gently resting against her chest, sleeping peacefully.
Thin strands of black mist rose from his body, transforming him from a wild leopard back into a Male Beastman.
Nyx cautiously released her Soul Form, successfully dispelling much of the black mist. In an instant, her heart raced wildly with excitement.
