She couldn’t count how many times she’d said it–Silas was her choice. Besides, it was Gideon who had left her first, so what was he so upset about?
He never seemed to reflect on his own actions.
She had talked with Silas about it, and Silas had actually wanted to hand over the company to Gideon. Gideon was the only one in the Baker family who showed any potential.
But now, it was clear he wasn’t up to the task. He didn’t seem to have the skills to manage the company well.
If he had put in even a little effort, listened to Silas during those training sessions, and worked on improving himself, things might have turned out differently for him.
Silas didn’t need the income from the Baker Group; he had other ventures and businesses. Becoming the wealthiest man in Capitalton wasn’t just because of the Baker Group. Managing it and growing it to its current stature was practically a thankless task. He did it out of gratitude for Eamon Baker’s upbringing.
Yet, except for the rest of the Baker family, even Gideon failed to understand. The one who was once groomed as the heir by Silas couldn’t comprehend Silas’s intentions.
No wonder Silas was considering a change in succession. Gideon was a lost cause.
Calliope looked at Gideon and couldn’t help but see him as a complete failure.
Drunk words are sober thoughts. He had certainly spilled out everything he was thinking.
Silas helped her down the steps, and then stood in front of Gideon, looking down at him.
“Do you hate me?” Silas asked coolly.
The group nearby took a few steps back, feeling a chill down their spines. Everyone looked at Gideon with a bit of sympathy.
Drinking too much and walking right into trouble, having said so much without a filter… It seemed Gideon was really in for it this time.
What kind of person was Silas Myers, to allow anyone to speak to him like that?
Some speculated that the wedding tomorrow might see Gideon wheeled in on a wheelchair.
“Mr. Myers… he’s just had too much to drink,” one of them glanced nervously at Silas, trying to explain.
Silas gave him a brief glance, “What sort of friends has he been hanging out with?”
“Heh… we’ve been buddies since we were kids…”
“Mr. Myers, cut him some slack, he’s getting married tomorrow after all.”
“Yeah, let it slide just for today, tomorrow’s his big day!”
The group tried to plead Gideon’s case.
Gideon, still drunk, bellowed, “No way! I won’t let it slide! I want a showdown with him today!”
When he looked up and saw Silas, he got all riled up and lunged towards him.
Silas, looking unimpressed, pulled Calliope out of the way.
“Silas, give Callie back to me!”
“She’s my woman! How can you, an uncle, steal your nephew’s girl? Is that right?”
“Give her back to me!”
Gideon’s shouts drew the attention of many around them.

This bar was always lively, and occasionally a few reporters would drop by. With his outburst, some curious onlookers started gathering. Everyone turned their attention to Silas and Gideon.
“Whoa, isn’t that Gideon, the guy getting married tomorrow?”
“So his bride got snatched by his uncle before the wedding?”
