“I really admire Uncle Silas. I want to learn from him,” Calista said with a determined look in his eyes.
“Originally, Uncle Silas wanted to groom you for the job, but you turned it down. Now the opportunity has come to me, and I’m not going to let it slip away. Look, I’m sorry, but if Uncle Silas chooses me, I’m ready to take it
on.”
With that, Calista turned and walked away, leaving Gideon standing there, flabbergasted.
Gideon watched him go, his expression a mix of disbelief and frustration. “Calista, you’re still in high school! What makes you think you can manage a company?”
“Uncle Silas is in charge for now, and I’ll be learning from him. He’s even helping me pick a major and wants me to intern at his company after the holidays,” Calista replied coolly.
He shot Gideon a glance, “Don’t be upset. You had the chance, and you let it go. I’m just picking up what you dropped.”
With that, he popped his earbuds back in and strode off, leaving Gideon furning.
He couldn’t believe it. Silas had really chosen someone else! Despite his earlier skepticism, Gideon realized that Silas was serious about preparing an heir for the Baker family.
He couldn’t let this chance go to waste. He needed to find a way to make things right with Silas. His friends were right; he needed to apologize and make amends.
After a moment of deep thought, Gideon resolved to have a heartfelt conversation with Silas, determined not to miss out on this opportunity.
Meanwhile, Yvette approached Gideon, looking distressed after a conversation with her family.
“Gideon, I don’t know what to do. My parents have lost it. They’re saying the money isn’t enough and want more money. If you don’t give in, they’re threatening to cause a scene at the reception!
I’ve tried talking to them, but they won’t listen. Gideon, you’ve got to come up with something! They really would do it, believe me. My relatives are such troublemakers!”
Yvette was genuinely worried. No one wanted the wedding to go smoothly more than she did. If her family caused a scene, it would reflect poorly on her. A ruined wedding would mean her dreams of marrying into wealth would be dashed.
No, she couldn’t let anything spoil her big day.
“What?” Gideon was already stressed out, trying to ensure the wedding was perfect to impress Silas. Now, Yvette was telling him her family was planning to stir up trouble.
His face darkened with frustration. “We’ve given them plenty already. Isn’t that enough? What happened to our agreement? Do they want to cancel the wedding and give back the money?”
Fuming, Gideon said, “Where are your parents? I’ll talk to them.”
“They’re over there,” Yvette said, leading Gideon toward her parents.
“So, I hear you’re planning to squeeze more out of, the Baker family?” Gideon challenged Yvette’s brother and parents, his expression grim.
“Do you think the Baker family is easy to push around? Are you trying to have the wedding called off and return the money right now?”
